In an article in this morning's LA Weekly, Southern California's favorite Summertime underground Electronic Music festival announced big changes for 2014. For the first time in fourteen years, Lightning in a Bottle - or LIB for short, will be migrating away from its roots to a new location at the San Antonio Recreation Area in Bradley, California. According to Do Lab and Lightning in a Bottle co-founder Dede Flemming, the new location in Monterey County in Central California will help accommodate festival attendees travelling from the Bay Area. The Do Lab has successfully cultivated communities in both Northern and Southern California and the move to Bradley ensures that the festival will be accessible to both. The festival is also making a move back to it's original dates over Memorial Day weekend, slating it for May 22 to 26.
The San Antonio Recreation Area sits encapsulated on all sides by hills of Bradley and is roughly twenty miles away from the Pacific Ocean. With a bevy of natural defenses against loud noises, the location will be perfect to keep the beats banging late into the evening. One issues with last year's festival at Lake Skinner Recreation Area in Temecula was the magnitude of noise emanating from the campgrounds, causing friction between the outlying community and the festival go-ers at LIB. Though the San Antonio Recreation Area is significantly larger than both Lake Skinner Recreation Area and Santa Barbara's Live Oak Campground, where the festival originated as well as the current location for the area's annual Lucidity Festival, they're still planning on 15,000 attendants like the last few years. An additional perk of the campgrounds is their stance on swimming; at Lake Skinner it was absolutely prohibited, but for 2014 swimming will be permitted - at least, if this drought can subside.
