Australian producer and singer Laura Jane Lowther, also known as KUČKA, released her single "Drowning" featuring additional production by FLUME. This is not only her first single in 3 years, but is also her first since signing to label LUCKYME.
“Drowning” surrounds Lowther’s voice with glowing synths that manage to be both ethereal and digital all at once. The shuffling percussion. Lyrically, the track reflects her personal experience. The open emotionality of her songwriting is contrasted with the simple but hyper-digital production within which they are embedded, to deliver her most sonically intimate release yet.
"The lyrics of 'Drowning' originated from intense imagery I saw when we first started producing the track," said Lowther. "The textures we used made me think of someone lying just underneath the surface of a lake. I thought about my own life and times where I felt I was barely able to keep afloat and wanted to capture that feeling, but also wanted the track to feel optimistic as I definitely wasn’t in that place anymore."
