The UK electronic artist GOLD PANDA has released a new, short but sweet, project titled Mountain / Financial District under the label Ghostly International.
The first track on this release is the warmer 4 minute and 14 second song, "Mountain" which incorporates a reverberating percussive sound cocooning a myriad of skittering, pirouetting samples.
The second 3 minute and 57 second track titled "Financial District" sits completely opposite of "Mountain," being that it is centered around off-kilter drones that play off one another before being hoisted up by the return of that resolute rhythm.
He describes this piece of work as a "short story" with a twist of modern hip-hop. He added that, “the 808 snares on ‘Mountain’ are a nod to Noah '40' Shebib and some-time Drake collaborators, Boi-1da. 'Financial District,' at 125 bpm is, I guess, an accelerated version of that.” The track titles were decided after a discussion with Brainfeeder artist MATTHEWDAVID, who told him he needed better names for the tracks.
“Listening to 'Mountain' again on a trip to Japan over New Year's, we flew directly over Mt. Fuji and it seemed to just fit what I was seeing out of the window. 'Financial District' was just the opposite of the vast expanse of the mountain I guess. Crowded, synthetic and shiny… repetitive – and of course both can erupt at any time.”
