Exclusive Interview With Tez Cadey

Parisian producer TEZ CADEY recently dropped his debut release for Ultra Music, "Walls." With such an obvious talent for production, we wanted to hear more about the record from the man himself.

Who is Tez Cadey, the artist? When did you first start making music?

I’m a 22 years old French student and I’ve been making music for about 6 years now.

What can we expect from the “Walls” EP?

I hope it will surprise you! None of the tracks really sound alike. Some of them are supposed to make you dance, some are more for listening in your car, some are just for dreaming. I really tried to keep it interesting throughout the 7 tracks.

What sort of vibe were you going for when you wrote it? Were they tracks you had written a while ago or were they all recent?

The EP was actually written over a long period of time. So I had time to go through different states of mind. I think that’s also one of the reasons why the songs sound different from one another. I’m still very proud of the result though. I tried to write the songs in the most honest way I could.

What are your influences musically?

I grew up listening to classical, jazz, rock and house music. I think it must have influenced me somehow. But what influenced me most was the Ed-Banger era. I got into electronic music with progressive house but it was really these guys that made me feel music the way I do now. I used to listen Justice, Breakbot or SebastiAn all the time.

What are you planning for 2016?

I plan on exploring different ways of making music, different genres. It’s not that I don’t like being trapped in a musical scene. But being curious is for me the best way to enjoy music. I also look forward to finishing my study. It’s going to be a relief to be able to truly focus on my career.
