Eric Sharp - Pioneer EP (Video Inside)

07 June 2013 - - The DJ List

Combining a conscientious mindset with unshakable musical passion, ERIC SHARP is becoming one of the most accomplished electronic DJ/Producers on the West Coast. Intimate private parties, club nights, and massive festivals are all familiar venues for him, bringing his own style of sophisticated house music: both intelligent and deeply somatic. This attitude comes across as a clean, distilled sound that pays homage to the core of dance music while carving out a polished niche. This EP is the first in an onslaught of Sharp projects to be unleashed in 2013, unveiling his best works to date.

RIS Labs returns to its spacecraft themed voyage with The Pioneer EP from label co-founder Eric Sharp. This offering shows a more mature side of Eric’s production: sophisticated, nuanced and subtle. The work is representative of some of Sharp’s experiences in his final years as a resident of San Francisco, a city which he had a love/hate relationship with. “Help Me” captures the feeling of being trapped, using the art of repetition to its proper effect in this exploration of 808 drums, techy arps, haunting whispers and dark strings. D.A.M.B. breathes depth into “Help Me” with a beautiful house remix. His take on this tune is refreshingly distinct from the original, while still incorporating many of Sharp’s production elements. "Organized Confusion" is forward thinking tune laden with twisted melodic percussion. “Avusadora,” or “Heartbreaker” translated, is a collaboration between Sharp and Bass Cadet. The most straightforward tune of the release heads yields booty shaking bottom-heavy house with a Latin touch.
