The dance music community lost a truly incredible talent last night. On Tuesday December 17, Dutch DJ, producer, Hysteria Records label owner, and icon, Paul Bäumer, of the electro house duo BINGO PLAYERS, lost his six-month battle with cancer.
A statement was made this morning on Facebook by his musical partner and close friend Maarten Hoogstraten, where he announced the sorrowful news.
“Dear All, I’m deeply saddened to tell you that Paul passed away last night after his battle with cancer. He fought strongly until the end. We want to thank you all for your support over the past few months” -Bingo Players Facebook Page.
Hoogstraten continued to say that all upcoming shows for the rest of the year have been cancelled so Bäumer’s family and friends can respectfully go through the loss.
He also added, “Paul, we will miss you”.
A number of friends, fellow artists, and fans have begun paying tribute to Bäumer on social media with kind words of compassion, heartfelt stories and memories, and images of Bäumer performing.
In July, when news about Bäumer being diagnosed with cancer first circulated, he decided to focus his time and energy in the studio, continuing to work on music and taking the lead in running Hysteria Records while receiving medical treatment. In that short time, he played a significant role in strengthening the label and developing imminent artists including MAKJ, HENRY FONG and CARL TRICKS, while further supporting the likes of BASSJACKERS, ALVARO, SANDRO SILVA and many more.
With worldwide chart topping singles like “Rattle” and “Cry (Just A Little), Bäumer's influence in the industry will never be forgotten. Although he may have passed, Bäumer will live on forever through his music.
Our sincerest condolences go out to Maarten Hoogstraten and Paul’s family and friends as they mourn the loss of one of EDM’s greatest inspirational figures.
