For our debut event at the Edinburgh Fringe we’ve put together our biggest line up to date as we welcome Josey Rebelle, 96 Back & Skillis to The Mash House main room, plus Percy Main (EH-FM/Lionoil), C-Shaman (Heaters/Capri Collective) and Iced Gem (Beatroots) in room 2.
For many Josey Rebelle needs little introduction. Earning her stripes as a resident at legendary London basement club Plastic People, Josey is renowned for her ability to seamlessly ride countless genres from Chicago house, Detroit techno, electro, UK garage, jungle, breaks, and plenty more old and new with a raw and brutal underground energy, all with one overwhelming priority: heavyweight selection first and foremost. Demonstrating the full spectrum of her musical knowledge on her three-hour Sunday morning Rinse FM residency (now in it’s 7th year), Josey has graced the line-ups of clubs such as Panorama Bar, Fabric, Concrete, Good Room, De School and Nitsa, following with an exclusive London residency at The Pickle Factory. A favourite at festivals including Dimensions, Primavera Sound, Bestival and Afropunk NYC, Josey has also recorded highly-acclaimed mixes for Resident Advisor, The Fader, Discwoman, Fact Magazine and BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix, and also appeared on the very first official Boiler Room broadcast in 2010. It is our pleasure that we welcome her to The Mash House for a very special Fringe party.
Joining Josey is 96 Back, the wonder producer behind one of our favourite albums of 2019. With guest input from previous guest Happa, 96 Back’s Excitable Girl LP (out on Central Processing Unit) journeys into astral IDM, darkside electro and jouyous Italo-tinged electronica, rooted in the sound of mid ‘90s Warp and Rephlex releases and tinged with an elating emotion that makes for those special moments on the dancefloor. Having been DJing alongside production for only two years, 96 Back has swiftly risen to feature on lineups across some of the UK’s most revered club spaces including Corsica Studios, The Island and Wire, and at the beginning of this year was named a resident at Sheffield’s Hopeworks alongside Batu, rRoxymore, Willow, and Rian Treanor. Those who’ve been tuning in to our monthly EH-FM slot and recent Rinse FM mix will know we’ve had his music on heavy rotation for a while now, and we’re delighted to have him feature at our biggest event yet.
We are lastly delighted to finally welcome Edinburgh’s lord commander of all things UK, Skillis, to round off our main room line up. The driving force behind Headset and SSL aka Sound System Legacies, Skillis has been pushing the city’s scene upwards for years now through an extremely consistent and versatile booking policy, as well as raucous resident nights which bring together a wealth of local talent. 2019 has seen Skillis hold down Pev & Kowton’s Livity Sound show on NTS Radio, as well as multiple appearances on Rinse FM with Hodge, Slimzee & Noodles / Groove Chronicles – we’re super glad to have him warm up proceedings for our debut date at the Fringe.
