Tis the night before Christmas (Eve,) when the city empties out and life temporarily slows down as intentions are set for the coming year ahead. Output GRAYSCALE presents an evening of music to complement this pivotal time that will range through all of its sonic shades, from meditative to visceral to celebratory and back again. The evening begins at 8pm, with FREE ENTRY with RSVP until 10pm, featuring a trio of cerebral and disruptive local artists that will set the tone for the long night ahead. Picking up the pace will be Jon Hester, whose infectious rhythms are informed from studying and teaching house dance. A bracing live set from justly-hyped newcomer Lady Starlight will be at once explosive, brash and fun — the latter of which is too often forgotten in underground dance music. Making his Output debut, Japanese Techno veteran Ken Ishii will then harness the peaking energy of the room and deftly propel it into the wee hours as only a true master of the craft of DJing can. The programme ends on a searing note with a slowly unfurling and hypnotic set from NYC native son FUNCTION that brings us back into our heads from our bodies — completing the circle.
Over the river and through the woods, The Panther Room provides a counterpoint of warmth as the fire crackles and melodic beats mesh with ambiance of a polished house party. Analog Soul raises the temperature with their incendiary blend of deep house and soulful techno that have rooted the twins in the New York underground for the last decade. The festive atmosphere reaches its high-water mark as Delano Smith presents Detroit Lost Tapes, bringing his Motor City via Chi-town prowess to the dance floor.
