Zushan’s life has always been about music. From taking piano classes since he was a kid, to picking up the organ and the guitar later on in his teen years. When he turned 17, he picked up turntablism, and hasn’t looked back since. Today, Zushan represents the new breed of energetic DJs, and has become one of the most exciting and versatile ones of this generation. With his breathtaking skills, music flow and stage presence, he brings a new kind of ecstatic feeling to the dancefloor.
Zushan has performed at many of the top clubs in Singapore, as well as some in many countries such as Vietnam, Australia and Indonesia to name a few. He has played alongside the likes of Yuksek, DJ Craze, Sammy Bananas, Flosstradamus, and Krafty Kuts. Apart from the clubs, he has also been seen on television as the DJ for the weekly show Oktolive in 2008, played on radio stations like Lush 99.5FM and 987FM, performed at major events such as the Youth Olympic Games in 2010, as well as the 2011 Mosaic Music Festival in a live Hip-Hop Band. Zushan’s competition accolades include winning the Phuture DJ Battle in July 2007, and also becoming the Pioneer Digital DJ Battle Singapore Champion in 2012, going on to represent Singapore at the Pioneer DJ Asia Final in Bangkok and earning 2nd Runner-up spot!
Teaming up with the Video Jock and Editor Master Race, under the collective name “O$P$” (Owe Money Pay Money), started a Revolutionary project titled “Geylang Crunk”. The notorious bass duo conjured their own take of Singapore’s Ghetto Bass, already having releases on Beatport and iTunes, the content of the music and videos tell a story of the future of Singapore, all the way through to CBD. That’s not all, Zushan is also part of the “Spaced Out Disco Juice”, a DJ collective which are behind The Spaced Out Show, a weekly online streaming session featuring Singapore’s most renowned DJs and artistes.
The key to Zushan’s flair is his versatility. Starting his base as a Hip-Hop DJ and a turntablist, Zushan ventured into other styles of music, from House to Techno, Funk to Disco, Dubstep to Drum & Bass, Trap to Footwork, and many more. Though his main sound preference is UK Bass, he has the ability to blend in and perform like he’s a master of any style of music, even if its mainstream! His turntablism background takes his sets to another level with his jaw-dropping trickery, whether on turntables, CDJs or even MIDI Controllers. A gadget freak by nature, his setups sometimes comprises of an absurd amount of MIDI controllers (matching his sneaker collection), with or without them however, his sets are always unique even to the regular eye.
Always wanting to be different and standout from the rest, this attribute certainly translates into Zushan’s limitless energy which he displays at every gig, every radio show, as well as every mixtape he creates. A mastermind of the 2 major projects “Geylang Crunk” and “The Spaced Out Show”, this work machine has certainly dedicated his life fully to the music, and he’s certainly not slowing down.
