DJ Wayne S began his professional DJ career five years ago, playing venues in Peterborough, namely the Norfolk, Café Â¥n Seine and private parties at the Metropolis Lounge and the Cresset. Wayne then moved to Leeds taking with him his unique blend of Latin, carnival beats and vocal house music and after some success in local DJ competitions appeared at, amongst many others, Elemental, Sutra, Mook, Qube and Leeds Metropolitan Union before becoming resident at Doctor Wu’s, hosting their successful “Fear and Loathing” nights.
DJ Wayne S has since set up Discophonic in Leeds, representing his collaborations with musicians and producers and under which he now releases his productions. DJ Wayne S has worked with jazz trumpet players like Trigger, who plays alongside the world-renowned Cuban Jazz star Omar Puente combining house music with a live element.
In early 2004, the debut Discophonic single was signed to the independent record label Angel Recordings and continues to pick up momentum with new remixes. Wayne S received a review from International DJ magazine, and was also voted third best DJ in Leeds (October 04), enabling Wayne to organize gigs and appearances across the UK and the world.
Wayne S also presents a local radio show in the Dewsbury District (West Yorkshire, UK). Wayne S took centre stage during Summer 2004 at the successful four day Summer Soundz event in Bedford (UK) playing alongside Jeremy Sylvester from Azuli Records.
âWayne S raises the roof with his talents, a night of quality house music.â? (The Evening Telegraph February 2004)
âA soulful blend of funky, disco and Latin house music is how Wayne describes is CD and, with the likes of Cricco Castelli, Martin Solveig and Prospect Park battling out in the mix, we couldn’t have put it better ourselves. He’s been DJ’ing a mere 5 years and since moving up to Leeds from Peterborough with his box of carnival beats and Spanish vox, has secured a residency and regular gigs. Hardly a shock, because this is mature, impeccably mixed, highly professional and thoroughly groovy. When DJing live, he works with Percussionists and horn players – thatâs gotta sound good.â? (IDJ Magazine January 2004)
DJ Wayne S won prizes during the Sutra DJ competition in 2002, Judges for the grand final included Playmusic’s Ben Brophy (Filling the Gap, the Vibe) and Alex Wolfenden (Circus, Bed, Pacha) with support from Tristan De Cunha (Back to Basics), plus and Dave Moorhouse of Sutra’s Groove Collective (Saturday night residents), and they gave the following review: “Kicking off with Kenny Hawkes’ ‘Dance for me’, it was clear the not only did Wayne appreciate the deeper side of house, but also that he may have a few messages in his set for those listening. The judges felt that throughout the competition Wayne has been one of the most consistent contestants, showing good mixing and always competent with the use of EQ and the technology available to him. Wayne’s confidence and enthusiasm showed through in the music he was playing, with the set building steadily to completion. The judges believe Wayne is very forward thinking in his selection of music.” (Northnights News December 2002)
