After an 18-year career in Spain and Europe, DJ Turmix packed up his records from Barcelona and hit the NYC scene in 2008. Three years later, he has already played at some of citys hippest nightspots, as well as at CD release parties, the Museum Of Modern Art (MoMa), Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and prestigious music festivals such as Central Park Summerstage, Lincoln Center Midnight Summer Night Swing, and Latin Alternative Music Conference.
In addition to specializing in Boogaloo & Latin Soul from the 60s, Turmix also spins music for cocktails at corporate events and sets for the dancefloor that take fans on a journey through cool jazz, latin, soul, funk & disco boogie mixed up with a groovy touch of electronic rhythms. He has also provided music for movies, short films, theater, broadcast & fashion shows.
Turmix has shared the stage with a number of Fania and Salsoul legends including Larry Harlow, Yomo Toro, Johnny Colon & Joe Bataan.
DJ Turmix, has helped reinvigorate the NYC Latin Boogaloo scene with his extraordinary latin boogaloo sets all over NYC. He started the monthly BOOGALOO! Party at the East Village club Nublu in January 2011, a celebratory night dedicated to the 60’s Nuyorican musical style, with vinyl-only DJ sets and live performances by one of NY’s leading latin boogaloo/funk bands, Spanglish Fly.
The US media has taken notice as well. Turmix has received wonderful coverage for his work with boogaloo, from a profile for the Associated Press to favorable mentions on NPR, Huffington Post, Wall Street Journal and New York Times, to spotlights in regional media such as the NY Daily News, Time Out, NY Post and NBC NY Nonstop Sound. He has also appeared on local NY TV programs such as Tiempo on WABC, Good Day NY on Fox Ch. 5, Fox News Latino, CNN, and NY 1 News.
Currently Dj Turmix resides at Cadaques Tapas Bar and Nublu Club and is officially sponsored by legendary label FANIA RECORDS and the TURMIX brand.
