Hailing from Morgantown, West Virginia, Transender, aka Matt Gellner, is a unique DJ with much to offer the electronic music scene. Matt has a very diverse musical background that began in his early childhood. Growing up on a farm in West Virginia however, he was not truly introduced to electronic music until spring 2001. On a spring break trip to Toronto, Matt entered the Palais Royale Ballroom for his first electronic event, and six hours later he walked out into the early morning sunshine a new man. Immediately understanding the power of this form of music, he began his journey not knowing where it would lead. For the next two years Matt established himself in the Pittsburgh electronic scene and enthusiastically soaked up as much knowledge about the music and culture as possible. During those years he would constantly wake up each morning after spending his sleeping hours dreaming of turntables and records. His fantasy was finally realized during the spring of 2003 when he bought his first set of decks. Still living on a college budget Matt learned how to beat match spinning a borrowed crate of DnB. Staying true to his first love though, he soon began building his collection of trance. Looking back, he had no true “first record,” rather he dove headlong into his passion, buying stacks of records at a time. The art of spinning came naturally to Matt, allowing him to branch out and perform live in a very short period of time. Within a few weeks he was playing house parties around Morgantown, and shortly thereafter found himself laying down tracks in clubs around Pittsburgh and Cleveland. During the past three and a half years Matt has been captivating crowds and creating transcendent experiences every chance he gets. Throughout the years Matts skills have evolved as well as his taste in music. Currently he is focusing on Hardstyle, but also spins Trance, House and Breaks. His deep love for the music is evident with each track he drops, causing others to become as excited about his music as he is himself. In his own words, “Spinning records is my outlet. When I need to relieve stress or let out some emotions, I just get behind the decks and the whole world disappears.” With aspirations to continue growing as a DJ and have to opportunity to share his music with more people around the world, he nevertheless retains the innocence he had when he begin, his one true love being only the music. This is a DJ that will, no doubt, be a force on the scene for years to come saying, “I hope that when I die, it will be behind the decks.” With a little luck, that won’t happen before the world knows his name.
