Tipz was interested in music of all genres from a very early age. He began to teach himself how to DJ at the young age of 14, by the age of 15 he started hosting his own radio show on a pirate radio station based in Essex, playing US House and UK Garage music. Establishing a name for himself in and around the South East, he began to take his passion very seriously. His love for the music and the art of Djing encouraged him to take the next step.
Tipz improved his technical ability & taught himself to scratch and mix R&B and Hip Hop music. This opened up his education for classic Disco and Funk breaks to classic Hip Hop and Swing. By 2004 Tipz had focused his DJ career on Hip Hop and R&B, getting residencies in the local area. In 2006 he was also approached by a local radio station ICR FM to host his own show. In this same year, guaranteeing his future in the music industry, he enrolled at University to study Audio & Music Technology.
2007 saw Tipz take a change in direction with his musical preference and he went back in to the world of House music and driven by his love and passion for the music, he started putting out the ‘I’ll House You’ mix tapes, which very quickly started getting him international recognition. Firmly establishing his style on the House music scene he re-entered the world of radio obtaining two resident shows on the very popular internet stations Handz On Radio (USA) and SSRadio (UK), both home to some of the greats like DJ Spen, Karizma, Jovonn, Grant Nelson, Andy Ward and DJ Disciple. His debut Handz On Heat show saw over 1,000 downloads in the first week. The shows popularity with house lovers across the globe continues to increase beyond any expectations. This success of the show and his approach, gave him the opportunity to interview some of the genres’ great producers such as Atjazz (UK), Ralf Gum (Gemany), N’Dinga Gaba (USA), Rancido (NL) and Four To The Floor (ZA). As Well as welcome guest mixes from Zepherin Saint (UK), Stephen Rigmaiden (USA), Jullian Gomes from G. Family (ZA), and more…
Tipz has now appeared as a guest DJ on Lars Behrenroth’s, Deeper Shades Of House Radio Show, not once but twice! Shows #339 and #373, which is broadcast on over 20 radio stations worldwide. Show #373 gained over 10,000 downloads within four weeks of being avaliable. Towards the end of 2010 Tipz touched down in South Africa for a few gigs and a memorable gig supporting Atjazz on his South African Tour. Before 2010 was over Tipz appeared on South Africa’s #1 house music radio show, The Urban Beat Show on Metro FM, hosted by Vinny Da Vinci, Zeal and DJ Christos, arguably the most respected DJ’s in the country. In early 2011 his style and talent for the music had been recognised by key players in the industry and this lead to Martin Iveson (Atjazz) inviting Tipz to become apart of Atjazz Record Company, independently run by one of the most talented producers the UK has seen in the last 10 years. On returning back to the UK, Tipz was asked by a promoter, to be resident DJ for a London event called Nyumba Deep, representing the underground deep house music. The night has lead him to support many artists such as Sy Sez, Rap Saunders and Andy Compton (The Rurals). Later that year Tipz released his first remix production for Mist Works – Common Question? which reached number 3 in the deep house sales chart in early October!
“DJ Tipz, not just a DJ it seems with his afrocentric subby flow, if we all entered into the world of production at this height, we’d be up in the clouds!.”
