Born Yannick Koffi, L.A. emcee Thurz started his career as half of the rap duo U-N-I, who released three albums, received accolades from Billboard, XXL, and The Source, and were named Best LA Breakout Artist at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. Thurz re-introduced himself as a solo artist with a bang in 2011, releasing the politically explosive L.A. Riot, an album that paid tribute to Rodney King and the subsequent L.A. race riots of 1992. His 2012 mixtape 517 W Queen Tape served as a prequel to his upcoming sophomore album Blood on the Canvas. The record is due out this year and comes accompanied by a series of short documentaries that offer an intimate look at Thurz’ personal life and his constantly evolving career path.
