DJ/Producer TCUP (Tom Cuppernull) is a NYC based dance DJ and producer. Born in Boston, raised in New York, and originally DJing out of Southern Australia, TCUP’s take on dance music is a unique one. Having been influenced heavily by his hip-hop roots and performances with numerous top 40 artists, his classical violin training mixed with his love for house music define his productions as well as DJ sets.
Music is no new endeavor for Tom. In 1995, Tom picked up a violin and was eventually named first chair of his high school orchestra. This taste in classical music was contrasted significantly by Tom’s interest in hip hop and mixing music. In 2008, Tom took his nickname ‘TCUP’ as his
stage persona, and as a DJ performed with hip-hop icons such as Lupe Fiasco, Fatman Scoop, Fabolous, and B.o.B. This rapid ascent performing with A-List artists propelled his 2009, where he began performing in nightclubs in South Australia, the US, and across multiple university campuses during his spring 2010 tour. This national and international exposure sparked his interest in electronic dance music. In late 2010, TCUP began producing house music and working for Slush Management, an EDM management company out of Los Angeles, California. While at Slush, Tom assisted with signed artist Porter Robinson, and helped with the launch of Porter’s track ‘Same My Name’, which hit #1 on Beatport.
Moving on from Slush after graduating with a Biology degree from Colgate University, TCUP relocated to NYC in 2011. After numerous performances and music releases, TCUP landed his first record deal in 2012, releasing his remix for ‘I Wanna Feel It’ on Phase One Records. Following his debut at WMC in Miami in spring ’12, the club circuit in NYC, and more college shows, TCUP is currently working on a new EP set for release this year. You can catch his podcast ‘Night Light’ every first and third Thursday of the month.
