DJ SVETA is an Australian DJ based in Sydney.
Her career began at the very early age of 6 years old back in Russia. It was her older brother who exposed her to English and American pop music, which could only be purchased through the black markets in Russia. Moving to Australia in the early 80s gave Sveta the opportunity and accessibility to buy freely and experience the wide range of music available to her.
Her biggest influences in music have been David Bowie. Having purchased her first Bowie LP, Space Oddity in 1984, she soon found herself working 3 jobs after school to help support her vinyl addiction. Today she would have to own one of the biggest David Bowie collections in Australia.
Through her university studies of communication majoring in film and television, Sveta became involved in community radio. In 1990 she landed her own show on-air, hosting the breakfast morning radio show on Sydneys number 1 community radio station, 2SER-FM. Sveta was one of the few who dare to play underground dance music during the breakfast time slot. Her unique tastes and versatility in dance music still has her producing and hosting the very same radio show to this day.
In 1996 Sveta was selected to play at the PRIDE new years eve dance party. From then on she has played every major dance party and nightclub in Sydney and interstate, ranging from the International circuit parties such as the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras and Sleaze Ball parties, to the infamous underground Sydney Leather Pride Associations Inquisition parties.
Her musical style is a fusion of deep house, dirty tribal, progressive-tech house, funky hard house and blocky breaks. In 2000, Sveta was select to record the first mixed CD reflecting the essence of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parties, The Party Millennium. She has since gone on to recording another mixed CD as well as dabbling in the studios resulting in a fine sleek progressive house track, Phoenix.
Sveta has developed a reputation as being one of Sydneys mistresses of deep, dark, sexy and filthy beats, playing to many underground communities such as the longest and only running S&M, Fetish night, The Hellfire Club.
Sveta proves to be on the rise as one of Australia best-hidden talents.
