Global. House. Music. The Cali-born, Vegas-based DJ/production duo of Spacebyrdz brings true beats every time they step behind the tables. Also known as Alex “Annexx” Clark and Oscar Molina, Spacebyrdz have been holding their own and remaining true while playing from Mexico to Miami since 2008.
Cultivated in Las Vegas, Spacebyrdz have successfully avoided the typical commercial cookie-cutter sound of the city in a market where real electronic dance music is still gaining acceptance. “We just try to expose the global side of house music to people that normally wouldn’t hear it,” says Annexx. Before—and now during the EDM renaissance—Spacebyrdz have stockpiled the right arsenal of music to remain fresh, relevant and original. Adds Molina, “We like to inspire people to explore different music.”
Where taking that risk has hurt many emerging artists, Spacebyrdz are an exception to the rule and their resume of previous and current residencies includes Seamless, Revolution, Drai’s, Jet, Pure, The Artisan, Vanguard and Saville Row. Touring has taken them from Mexico to Miami alongside Steve Lawler, Dubfire, Nic Fanciulli and James Zabiela. But their biggest accolade? Keeping anyone from the newly educated listener to the most elite house head on the dancefloor ‘til after the break of dawn on numerous occasions. “Once we draw them in we can get away with a lot more,” says Annexx.
Spacebyrdz’s influence on expanding the appeal of global house role doesn’t end in the booth. Spacebyrdz’s forward-thinking approach to music now extends to their label Riff Raff with Android Cartel. “We will stay true to our sound,” promises Annexx. “I want to play what I love and feel and get into it.”
