Biography

Eclectic DJ, studio musician, producer, remixer and label founder DJ Smash is an innovative veteran of the international club scene and for the last 15 years has been spinning in nightclubs, festivals and private events worldwide.

He is the first and original DJ Smash (since 1985) although several other entities have recently tried to claim his name as their own.

As a producer, Smash has released 15 vinyl singles, 5 official mix CDs including two successful mix / compilations for the legendary jazz label Blue Note Records, remixing some of the label’s contemporary roster.

He also compiled and released two volumes of the successful series ‘Acid Jazz In The Mix’ for the Instinct record label in 1999 and 2001.

In 1986, Smash embarked on his first proper DJ residency at the legendary long running NYC after hours spot, Save The Robots (Ave. B & 2nd st).

Introduced as a fill in to the club by resident DJ John Hall, he parlayed that into his own 4+year residency, playing an eclectic music mix for a who’s who of downtown scenes’ decadent yet, influential nightlife.

In the early 90’s Smash co-founded the highly influential labels Eightball Records and New Breed Records around the same time he became 4 year resident of the legendary club Giant Step which spearheaded the trend of fuzing DJ’s spinning electronic club rhythms with live musicians onstage, in the mix.

From 1989-2001, Smash has released 15 vinyl singles and eps, 5 official mix CDs

and remixed over 30 tracks for major and indie labels.

He’s remixed and produced his personal heroes including Stevie Wonder (Motown Remixed vol. 1), Herbie Hancock (Dis Is Da Drum), Roy Ayers (Naste), Dizzy Gillespie (Savoy Remixed), and many other established as well emerging artists.

Currently, he releases his own productions under the Mobile Global Trax moniker

and collaborates with artists worldwide.

Recent officially released remixes include Marvin Gaye – Time To Get It Together (Motown), Pimps Of Joytime -H2O (Wonderwheel), Pleasuremaker Band (What We Came For), Nappy G. (Haba Na Haba), and DJ Romain & Fanatix – Disco Tonight (NuFaze).
