Since first gracing the decks, playing to an intimate crowd in the not so distant past (1999) DJ Simonz has come a very long way. That journey has seen his interest in music develop from a bedroom hobby into the catalyst for him to emerge fronting the current Asian/Oriental dance music explosion in the UK at some of the country’s biggest venues, including London’s legendary Ministry of Sound.
The 24 year old Newcastle based DJ/Producer has slowly built up a reputation as a DJ of high calibre who can consistently entertain diverse crowds and send them home craving more of the same. It is this reputation which has earned him his DJ residency for the biggest oriental clubbing brand in the UK, Zen Nation.
Simonz’ humble beginnings prior to his DJing rise involved the establishment of a Chinese pop-music, remix website-cult under the name of Simtub. After taking over the Asian music interests of the no.1 DJ voted Dancecity network. The site immediately created a stir in the online, oriental music community. By using the Internet and working with a team of enthusiastic DJs & Producers from around the world he helped filter the harder edged western sound of hard house and hard trance and mix it together with Cantonese pop songs to create an infectious blend of pop hard-dance. This was injected directly into the rave and club scenes in countries such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan as well as into the vast Asian/Oriental communities within USA, Canada, Australia and the UK.
Having since been discovered by Hollands largest Asian/Oriental party promoters, Human Entertainment, DJ Simonz has successfully crossed over to Dutch waters and occasionally spins for their huge party nights. Through this connection, DJ Simonz also caught the ears of a Dutch DJing/Production team Zerosystem, and was immediately invited to join with them founding a unique Anglo – Dutch – Oriental connection.
Over time DJ Simonz has progressed and kept pace with the evolution of dance music and strived to stay at the cutting edge of the scene and to make a difference. As his love for Trance & Hard Dance music has developed he has turned his attentions to further experimentation and focused on the creation of his own quality productions. Meanwhile, DJ Simonz’ live sets, a fusion of melodic and uplifting synth fuelled choonage with his rip-roaring, dance floor demolition hard dance sounds, continue to wow clubbers on both sides of the English channel. Back in the studio, DJ Simonz recently wrapped up his first release, co-producing a driving Trance remix with Singapore based partner DJ [email protected] Their production effort was for the debut worldwide single of local Hong Kong Dance guru Jamaster As Bells of Tianamen – a hefty slice of Oriental Trance that is sure to make waves in the World wide club scene.
