Sarah has been involved in the club scene since 1993 when she began working behind the bar at Baker’ in her hometown of Birmingham. After some severe clubbing years, she got hold of her first set of decks in 1997 and thus Sarah G was born…!
After 6 months locked away in her bedroom and diligently learning her trade, she began playing at small Midlands venues, with her music style heavily influenced by Scott Bond and Tony De Vit. By the end of the year, she had played her first biggie at Flashback at the Que Club and landed her first residency at Lovesexy at Baker’ alongside Lisa Lashes.
1999 saw Sarah reach the final of the Mixmag DJ Competition at Ultra Vegas, grabbing second spot. For the rest of the year, Sarah hassled club promoters the length and breadth of the country for gigs. Eventually, her persistent pestering paid off when she landed herself a weekly residency at Forbidden, a struggling pumping house night at Leicester’ Club City. Within a few months the night was packed and the name of Sarah G was spreading.
Last year, Mixmag placed Sarah at number two in their list of Top 10 DJs for 2000, running a 3-page article on her and later in the year put her in the Transmitter section. Publicity worked for Sarah as she became resident at Sundissential, monthly resident at Republica (Baker’) and Edinburgh’ Oxygen, who offered her a residency after her first appearance. With regular guest slots at Golden, Bagley’, Naughty but Nice and Café Blue Sarah was starting to earn herself a tasty reputation.
On New Year’ Eve, she played at Republica, Hotdog and Golden at Manchester Academy, followed by a 3 hour set at Sheffield’ Scream on New Year’ Day. With studio work in progress and her debut in Ibiza this summer, Sarah G is fast becoming one of the country’ hottest properties.
