Deeply rooted in the NW dance community for this last decade, yet emerging from the south (SoCal). Ryan Walz has magnified the energy on dance floors going on 16+ years. While getting his start promoting for many founding father events at the birth of the Los Angeles rave scene over twenty years ago, the creative spark as a fan of early electronic keyboard music genres drove him much further.
His accidental plunge into turntables led directly to the formation of the deejay crew “MadHouse,” that went on to literally blow the lid off some of the biggest parties in one of the largest underground electronic markets of the time in less than a year. Ryan’s immediate understanding of music structure and technical mixing was no doubt one of the driving forces that pushed an unusually quick rise having the MadHouse Dj’s “a collective of his brother Mike aka no_say_no & Dj Chilly T, a scratch turntablist 80’s veteran,” on fliers with the top headliners of the day. A jump right to some of the most coveted closing slots at legendary parties such as: Double Hit Mickey and Armageddon, a shared late residency with no_say_no at The Metropolis “Orange county’s only stable underground dance club at the time,” and a huge closing set at the infamous RTD “Right to Dance party.” An event that protested the ill-fated L.A.P.D. induced riots of NYE 1996.
Introduced to stumptown while spinning Portland’s “Exit 303”, then being hosted by USA productions, Ryan made discovery of a proud and enthusiastic dance community. He like so many other dj transplants irresistibly moved to the northwest by the turn of the millennium and immediately started up a rogue sound system which has now evolved into Alignment Sound. Working for the next decade with his brother in law Mason Roberts to start the Analog Network, he has also produced some of PDX’s most successful and most memorable moments and parties being better known for the Classic’s, Supernature, and Vinyl Republic. Also, pulling together with many other Portland promoters helped to build one of the largest events in the city’s history, “Spiritualize”, and not to mention several major contributions to the Fire Electronic Music festivals not far behind in attendance for the last 9 years.
This being said, now there is only the future as he is currently assisting a new project with lifelong friend Jaxxmaster Kevrok “UniqueSoulSounds”. While as an artist diving head into the latest tribal tech house sound with an appetite for vinyl even worse than before, he is guaranteed to bring a unique steady mix to every single dance floor. “We aren’t ever stopping” is the last thing he said to me. With credentials and experience like this behind him I believe him…and finally now Analog Network teaming up with Kaos Kreations “whom in Portland is setting the standard for 2010” the best is yet to come.
