Hailing from Leeds in the UK, Ross Richards is a DJ, Producer and Co-owner of TUG Underground Records.
Entering the professional DJ world at the age of 20 he fast became recognised for his unique style and ability to move a crowd. With time he started to play more and more reputable gigs. Ross has performed at many venues including festivals, clubs, underground parties, beach bars, boat parties and even laid down the sound track for the Miss Adriatico beauty competition (Italy) back in 2009. Some of the recent venues played at include Es Paradis (Ibiza), Mint Club (UK), Juice (Italy), Savannah (Ibiza), Festival On The Beach (Italy), BN3 (Ibiza), Warehouse (UK), Circus At The Sea (Ibiza), Kanya (Ibiza) and Eden (Ibiza) to name a handful.
Mixing other peoples music was all well and good but ultimately he wanted nothing more than to be able to create his own music and so the long process of learning how to produce began. Ross dedicated four very long years into learning his way around the studio and worked tirelessly to improve his production skills and techniques before releasing any music.
Finally in the summer of 2010 his first EP featuring 2 original works, “Coded” was released on Revolucion Records. The hard work had paid off and his debut release was a huge success receiving phenomenal support from many great DJ’s and Artists from around the world.
“Sneaky, freaky tunes here. “Coded” does it up right. Sick bass.” – Tyler Stadius (Fabric / Proton)
“ Coded WORKS!” – Aaron Carl (Wallshaker Music / Ovum / Soul City)
“Both tracks are good” – Francesco Farfa (Audio Esperanto)
“Nice groove on Coded” – Elio Riso (Space Ibiza)
“Oh yeah I like this.. Cheers” – Gee Moore (Bora Bora)
Today, only one year down the line from his debut release Ross’s music is in high demand and he is currently producing and remixing for labels around the globe. His music is being played and supported by some of the most respected names in the industry such as:
Luciano (Cadenza), Roger Sanchez (Release Yourself) , Yousef (Circus), Erick Morillo (Subliminal) , Bushwacka (Olmeto), Tyler Stadius (Fabric / Proton), Elio Riso (Space Ibiza) Dave Seaman (Audiotherapy), Hobo (Minus), Franchesco Farfa (Audoi Esperanto) Spesh (Loöq Records / Qoöl) , Piatto (Italo Business), Hernan Cerbello (Low Pressings, Soulman), Daniele Tignino (Neurotraxx, Great Stuff) , Dj Vibe (Kaos, Ultra) , Dj Chus (Stereo Productions) , Aaron Carl (Wallshaker Music / Ovum / Soul City) Rob Pearson (Evasive Records), Orde Meikle (Slam) , Gee Moore (Bora Bora) , Nick Muir (Bedrock) , Al Mackenzie (D:Ream). To name but a few……
Ross is definitely not a one-trick-pony and his versatility shows in his productions, his music ranges over many different styles and genres from down tempo, electronica, IDM and experimental to the minimal, techno and house that he plays in his DJ sets.
When not in the studio or DJ booth Ross is also responsible for the running of TUG Underground Records along with fellow DJ/Producer Rob small.
TUG Underground started its life as an event at one of the most respected clubs in the north of England, The Mint Club. Later events were also held in Italy and Ibiza.
In 2010 Ross teamed up with Rob and after much preparation the label was born. Not only is the Label a platform for them to release their own music on but also other quality artists. The idea is not to pigeonhole the sound of the label but to simply release only great quality music ranging from Deep House right through to Techno.
The Label already features music from artists such as Le Ron, Yves Eaux, Arnold From Mumbai, Ron Costa and many more with a large arsenal of quality music also lined up for release throughout the rest of 2011. On top of this Label parties are planned globally for late 2011 / early 2012.
As a relatively new record label TUG is fast becoming recognised for its high quality and exciting releases and is being supported by more and more of the industries heavyweights all the time.
As the production and remix work builds up you can expect to see no less than 15 releases from Ross this year. A full length album is currently under construction and expected mid to late 2012, preparations have also begun for live performances although it is likely that we won’t see his debut live set until around 2013.
