ROMAN MOJICA began his DJ career playing a series of private parties. He got his big break in May 2000 in the amateur night of SevenEightOrange (simply known as ORANGE). After a month of gigs at ORANGE, WHERELSE and MASyMAS, Roman was recruited by NBK (Natural Born Klubbers). This brought him to larger audiences all around the Philippines. NBK gave him a chance to perform alongside the world’s best like Dj Touche, James Lavelle, Sasha, Dj Jurgen and Jimmy Van M and events at HEY JUDE (Boracay), CLUB FUEL (Cebu), VEGA (Ilo-Ilo), AZULE (Bacolod), NORTH (Bacolod) and BEACHCOMBER (Boracay).
After Orange had its farewell party in New Year 2003, he was recruited by CONSPIRACY with Adrian Cuenca, Chip Dela Calzada, Elian Habayeb, Kevin Ruiz and Stevie Tambunting. Conspiracy booked Roman regular gigs at ABSINTH, TEMPLE BAR, BED and PONTICELLO.
From 2002-2004, Roman’s main weekend gigs were at BAR42, GREEN PLANET, BORA BAR (now called BAMBOO LOUNGE), COQUINA, HALO with guest stints at the NBC Tent, EMBASSY Super Club, V-BAR, MDC (Manila DJ Club), PASEO UNO, AZZURRO, BED, Peligro (now called THE HOLE), PONANA, CENTRO, ZENO BAR and JONY’S (Boracay).
Roman took in Paolo Maralit and headline Bora Bar weekends and eventually formed STEREO MANILA. Mac Cunanan, formerly of CURV, was then introduced to Stereo Manila to fill-in Paolo Maralit’s departure to Toronto, Canada. Also in 2004, CALYPSO EVENTS, managed by Charlie Capistrano and fronted by DJ Marie Garcia, recruited Roman, along with Luke Orbos, Yoshi Uy, Mark Nicosia and Martin Tiangco and did weekend gigs at MAESTRO LOUNGE and MATI.
In the inaugural of the Nocturnal Awards in 2005, Roman was nominated as Manila’s Favorite DJ. The New Year Eve event of Calypso Events, SUNRISE AT MATI, received numerous Nocturnal Award nominations until its final party in 2007. The year 2006 saw Roman’s music come in full maturity as he performed an opening Electro House/Breakbeat set for DJ Behrouz of Renaissance/Yoshitoshi at Embassy Super Club. As the much-awaited WAREHOUSE 135 opened in 2007, Roman was a monthly guest for Driven Manila, and continued as a regular guest of Calypso Events at Embassy Cuisine’s SOUL SHINE Friday’s. It earned him a second Nocturnal Awards nomination as Manila’s Favorite DJ. As TABU LOUNGE opened in late 2007, Roman was the among the pioneer DJ’s in the successful Tuesday Model’s night that is still ongoing.
Roman took a hiatus with his wife at Auckland, New Zealand, in 2008 and had their first child. He returned a year later to do Tabu Model’s Night Tuesdays and Soul Shine Friday’s with Marie Garcia.
Roman recorded his first 4-hour mix compilation for the Anniversary of BLUE LEAF Events, played at more than a dozen establishments at Boracay Island in the summer of 2009. You can still find him now playing alongside Marie Garcia and the upcoming DJ on the rise, JC Sandejas.
