Born in Glasgow and raised in Manchester, Robin Porter survived the heady days of Manchester?s ?Hacienda Club?, Morley?s ?The Orbit? and the nomadic ?Spiral Tribe? events that shaped the rave and club culture of the late 80?s, to become the founder of Immigrant Industries; home to 3 globally respected Independent record labels and a decade strong design studio rooted in the fashion industry. He has proved himself a world class DJ and a poignant music producer, representing the ?Immigrant? sound when he performs at many of the most prestigious venues around the globe.
After graduating with a degree in design and a doctorate in chemical engineering, Robin packed his record bag and portfolio and journeyed to America; first stop Los Angeles – ?Ciudad De Angeles.? He soon made friends with like minded musicians in Los Angeles, co-producing with the well-respected Kenneth Graham and befriending John Tejada. DJ gigs in Chicago resulted in meeting DJ Jes and Tim Xavier, whilst jaunts to New York introduced him to Alexi Delano and Casey Hogan who would become friends as well as Immigrant artists. The ?Immigrant? concept grew in notoriety, and Robin founded Immigrant Records in 1999.
During the past decade, Robin has enjoyed numerous club residencies in Los Angeles, and DJ?s regularly at venues worldwide, including Pacha (Buenos Aires), OSA Club (Mendoza), The Limelight (New York), Robots (New York), Sonic (Montevideo), Stealth (Nottingham), Avalon (Los Angeles), Turnmills (London), Aurora Club (Split), Zentraus (Barcelona), Polar TV (Berlin), Cafe D?Anvers (Antwerp) and Folies Pigalle (Paris) and has founded two other vinyl labels, Shva Muzik and Traxstars.
Robin?s musical accolades include landing DJ mix slots on the BBC Radio 1 show ?One World? and performing live on Mr.C?s and David Mothersole?s Kiss FM shows. Robin?s most sought after track ?Fathernature,? was licensed to the ?Fabric 16? CD mixed by Eddie Richards and Craig Richards jump-started the Fabric mix CD series by licensing ?Montage,? by Jamie Anderson from the Immigrant catalog.
The label continues to host annual events during the Sonar festival in Barcelona and WMC in Miami, with new Immigrant label manager Dave Martin, founder of the long time ?Technique? club in Leeds at the helm. The duo are planning an intensive production schedule in 2007, and are currently organizing their tour of North and South America, with numerous European gigs already scheduled..
With a recent move back to England, Robin has developed the Immigrant digital download store to showcase the entire musical catalog and is currently designing a range of Immigrant clothing, bags and accessories for launch in 2007, which will also soon be made available on the online store.
