A little while back we read in a magazine that there was one synthesizer, built in 1974 that was used by Daniel Miller to make ‘Warm Leatherette’: The Korg 700S. Obsessed since a very long time with this early synth-pop sound, we tracked down this synthesizer and paid for it.
Then we made a song: ‘Prototype’ using only sounds from this keyboard. A second song also came out of the Korg: ‘We Live In Daddy’s Car’ and so we mailed a CD to Michael Mayer at techno label KOMPAKT in Cologne Germany. Michael sent a message back saying ‘Yes we feel this’ and so we made a 12” release together.
After this, we made a second 12” called ‘Frequency’. This also used the Korg 700S for its sounds and for the B Side we tried some vocals too: ‘I Look Into Mid Air’, is a song about losing your close friend and being alone.
After these releases, we were asked to do some remixing and we were honoured to get our hands on ‘Heartbeats’ by The Knife, one of our favourite bands in the world right now.
Also we were allowed to remix ‘Girls’ by The Prodigy and our all time favourite ‘Photographic’ by Depeche Mode. We did our best, but these are such good songs it is a job mainly comprised of fear.
At the beginning of 2005 we started to perform at nightclubs and festivals playing new Rex material, our remixes and our most favourite material by other people. We make artwork and animations which we present alongside our show.
Our single ‘Maximize’ came out on KOMPAKT in 2006. Then in 2007 we made a remix for The Sounds ‘Tony The Beat’.
Our new single ‘Circulate / Italian Blond’ came out on Kitsuné Maison in September 2007.
We also just finished (for the 2nd time) our debut album, which is due out in early 2008. It is a lot electronic, a little techno and a little pop. We like it and we hope you do too!
