Razvan Beatport

Real name Razvan Popescu. Razvan was born in Bucharest, Romania on September 9, 1980. He emigrated to the United States at the age of 9 in December 1989 and lived in Chicago until August 1991 when he moved with his family to Grand Rapids, MI. Though he appreciated electronic music for many years, it wasn’t until returning from a party in Ann Arbor in February of 2004 that he decided he had to spin records himself. Heavily influenced by Paxahau, the Detroit Techno scene of the mid 2000’s and Berlin, Razvan soon found himself a fan of the deep, dark, minimalistic techno of such labels as M-nus, Plus8, Ghostly, Vakant, Mobilee, Einmaleins, Foundsound, Traum Schallplaten, and Kompakt. Soon he was getting gigs all over Western Michigan but it was apparent that the Grand Rapids area was not a good place to live if you were an Electronic Music dj. So in September 2006, Razvan moved to Oakland California with his girlfriend to be near the flourishing electronic music scene of the San Francisco Bay Area. He began spinning regularly and in August 2007 he helped throw the infamous DJ Bone underground party with his good friend James Bass of Bassaholics Anonymous. In October 2007, Razvan founded Black Market Techno, an electronic music event organizing and promoting company primarily in the East Bay, with friends dcoy, Farzana, IXD, and J_Moody.
