DJ Radius came to the Portland area in 1997 from the Midwest. He was heavily influenced by DJs like Paul Van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten, DJ Tiesto, and Armin Van Buuren during his initial forays into the genre of trance, a journey that began in 1998.

DJ Radius was introduced to DJing on vinyl by DJ Velocity, then a DJ & bartender at local club Panorama. He played some small events (along with DJ Dave Hood) on DJ Velocity’s Technics 1200s, but has since chosen the CD format for his music collection and started shooting for playing in nightclubs.

He got his first break to play at Panorama on July 26, 2002, as preparation for a primetime guest appearance on Saturday August 3, 2002 as part of DJ Alex’s set. Since then, DJ Radius has opened for Panorama’s resident DJs Mischief and Frankie J, and has played many full (6-7 hour) saturday night sets at Panorama. DJ Radius was chosen to tag-team with DJ Alex for the last night that Panorama would be open, ending Panorama’s 10-year reign of Portland’s club scene.

With Panorama closing its doors, DJ Radius started his trek to establish a presence in the wider trance and dance scene in Portland and beyond. Since undertaking that journey, DJ Radius has played sets at local venues: Panorama, Ohm, Level, The Fez Ballroom, Red Cap Garage, Tonic Lounge, Madame Butterfly, Mama Mia’s Trattoria, Imbibe, Pala, and Viper Room. He’s recently also added some outdoor festivals to the list.

DJ Radius has also been broadcast many times on Portland FM radio on 94.7FM KNRK — he’s a resident DJ of the Cocktail Mix @ 6 and has been played numerous times on the Modern Mix with Squid. Recently an internet broadcast on afterhoursdjs.org was added to the list of events he’s played.

In the fall of 2006, DJ Radius added a new genre to his repertoire — dirty, glitchy Electro House.

The DJ Radius Trance Sound:

A trance fanatic from day one, DJ Radius likes to create an environment of energy and excitement that gets you up and dancing; a soundscape where the ebbs and flows of trance take you on a journey filled with rich aural textures and body-charging energy. Whether playing epic anthem trance classics, vocal trance melodies, rich and uplifting euphoric nonvocal trance, or even bangin’ hardtrance, the environment is sure to please. DJ Radius feels as if he spends only a short time as a DJ between tracks and the rest of the time connected to the dance floor, just as he was when first beginning his journey through this genre. DJ Radius’s love of trance spans uplifting, euphoric, anthem, melodic, and vocal trance, he’s sure to sweep you up to the next level, and leave you wanting even more. Sets with trance names such as Kristina Sky, resident at Spundae, have come his way recently.

The DJ Radius Electro House Sound:

During his trip to Burning Man in 2006, DJ Radius got to hear a sound that connected with him for the first time since he fell in love with sound of trance in 1998. During visits to the Opulent Temple sound camp, he was able to hear sets by DJ Dan, Scumfrog, and other DJs that include electro house in their sets. From that point on he knew that his second genre was going to be electro house.

DJ Radius doesn’t play the softer electro house, instead he searches out the “dirty beats” — glitchy, dirty, sexy sounds in electro house that vibrate your body. A set from DJ Radius will keep you dancing to the dirty beats!
