Quentin North is 1980 born musician from Athens, Greece, who spent most of the last decade living and studying in Manchester, England. Quentin’s musical upbringing involved diverse influences such as the Bee Gees, ABBA and Vivaldi from Mom’s side along with Soul, Blues and Jazz from Dad’s side.
Quentin’s first contact with an instrument occurred when he was 14 after discovering his father’s old Aria semi hollow bass and decided to repair it. The initial excitement turned into a call that lead onto a long term devotion to music making, which pretty often crossed over between styles incoherently and also used to upset the neighbors a lot…still does…both…
After high school he did a two year college degree in Audio Engineering where he was introduced to Acoustics and the science of sound. This would lead him three years later to the Northwest of England to study Acoustics and later on Music at the University of Salford, where he focused on Jazz and Film Scoring.
Quentin’s major musical and stylistic influences have been among others: Joe Satriani, the 90’s Alternative, Grunge and Heavy Metal Scene, the Ambient side of people like Aphex Twin, Brian Eno and Ryuichi Sakamoto, Deep/Progressive House producers like Sasha and John Digweed, the music of Joy Division and the 90’s Madchester Acid House movement, Lalo Schifrin and 70’s car chase music and finally Jazz and Fusion particularly the music of John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Enrico Pieranunzi and the electric Miles Davis.
His first contact with a wider audience happened in 2009 when two of his tracks were included in a c.d. compilation dubbed Concealed Truth Vol. 2 by Adrianos Papadeas, released by The Sound Of Everything in Athens, Greece. A year later another two tracks made it in the third volume of the series – all three releases now considered a highly commercial success – and eventually on December 22nd 2010 his debut c.d. was released by the same label. The self-titled album has received so far quite a few positive and enthusiastic reviews by the global DJ and producing community, particularly in pages like mypromopool.com, stereoworld.gr etc. As of last April, Quentin’s debut album is also available thru iTunes and Beatport.
In his spare time but also during work, Quentin enjoys a glass of fine bourbon, appreciates a good conversation on politics, history, UFO’s and conspiracy theories and loves planespotting.
