Philo Beatport

Nightvision’s very own twisted house purveyor, Philo aka Mike Hanlon has been rocking dance floors all over the region for some time now with his filthy, nasty, warped out tech, acid, tribal, progressive house and breakbeat sounds. Beginning his career with a monthly residency at one of Pittsburgh€™s Premier club nights “Solution @ Chemistry” Mike was able to build a strong fan base for himself which demonstrated to be quite helpful when opening up his own Friday night club night, the now defunct “Fridays @ Muse.” With these two residencies Mike has been able to make a name for himself in the region and subsequent bookings have followed, Opening for such artists as D:Fuse, T-1000 and even DJ Assault to name merely a few. You can now find Philo spinning his trademark blend of house and breaks all over the region and beyond.

Trained formally in both piano and guitar, Philo has an immeasurable range of musical knowledge, which are now carrying over into the studio into his own original productions. Introduced to electronic and industrial music by artists such as Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, and God Lives Underwater in the early ‘90s Mike’s infatuation for the electronic sound began. Not very long afterwards Mike discovered artists such as The Crystal Method, Hybrid, Sasha & Digweed, Lee Burridge and Umek. Listening to these artists made Mike realize the power they can have on the dancefloor thus making the turntables his new instrument of choice.

Philo’s sound is constantly evolving and taking new form but has firm roots in tech house, acid house and progressive. Always one to seek out records that are as individual as he is, Mike keeps his sound fresh and inventive, a true supporter of the underground house movement.
