Jared started his career as a DJ in 1997 after answering an add in a newspaper. For a bit of extra cash while studying audio and computer engineering, he played at weddings, 21sts and pubs for a small local entertainment business.
It was not long before Jared felt the desire to take his ever increasing skill further. He joined forces with SounzGood Ltd, which very quickly became the regions hightest demand mobile DJ service. Although playing everything from small weddings and 21sts to large student raves with great success, it was the large events that eventually captured his focus.
Now well known as ‘Swampy the DJ’ he bagan to bring something new to the region. The increasing popularity of dance music caught his attention and he began to introduce his listners to this new sound that would eventually take him into a whole new area of the DJ scene.
He had developed an ear for commercial house, trance and club, alowing him to capture new crowds of a very wide variety. After being offered local residencies, and playing in a few clubs Swampy realised he couldn’t afford to leave his day-time studies and work for the rather humble DJ wages offered.
In 1990, he took his first break from DJing. After five months, madness set in and the addiction to music and large crowds was realised. He dropped his day job, building electronic equipment. A new focus was developed and big plans made for the future of the local dance scene as a whole.
After meeting his soulmate and future wife Sarah, the two joined forces and obtained funding to build a new high-energy nightclub. 12 months in construction saw the completion of Altitude Nightclub in February 1992, primarily built for dance music, with the capacity to take national live tours, and big name DJs alike. “The ‘cene’ had arrived in the Waikato!”
With the new club came a new alais. ‘Nimbus’ is now a resident DJ with the ability to look at a crowd and play anything from his natural form – Trance, Hard Trance, House & Hardhouse, to 80’ classics and remixes. Check him out warming up a crowd beside NZs top DJs, and Internationals, as well as between sets from NZs touring live acts. “Altitude is about the music. Music is all I do now”.
