Mojo Rising considers music to be an essential expression of the human condition. His earliest memories include listening to classical works on the family record player, while pretending to be a conductor. Grade school presented Joel the opportunity to play symphonic and jazz winds. Music production became an enduring aspiration after being introduced to MIDI, sampling, and synthesis. As a veteran… DJ of the Los Angeles electronic music scene, Mojo performed prolifically throughout the 90s before taking a hiatus from live gigs to further his education. Armed with a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Recording Arts, technology has become an important part of his musical journey. As an undergrad, he developed a virtual theremin application; exploring unique musical interfaces still intrigues him. While Joel’s primary focus is now on production, he still enjoys dropping mixes in a variety of genres. An avid collector of music with a diverse range of influences, eclectic best describes Mojo Rising’s tastes and stylistic offerings.
Currently releasing tracks under the moniker Mojo Rising. Exploring all styles within Electronic dance music, Mojo Rising is focused primarily on music within the downtempo, chill out and trip hop genres. Mojo was a frequent fixture at numerous Los Angeles electronic dance music events throughout the 90s. A regular at legendary Los Angeles productions including What? Afterhours, Insomniac and F.A.M.I.L.Y. Mojo was also a featured guest at the Organic festival, the early Nocturnal Wonderland and Electric Daisy Carnival events, Fresh Produce and Audiotistic to name a few.
