Boston-born Melissa grew up traveling between Boston and the Caribbean island of St. Maarten. Her childhood in the sunshine of the Caribbean developed her musical taste; you can feel the sun shining through the vibrant music she plays, and she touches many genres, from hip hop to house, reggae, reggaeton, rock, Latin, disco and funk, nothing is off-limits⦠Her sets are fluid, exiting and exotic. She is truly a versatile dj.
It was in the unlikely location of Burlington, Vermont where Melissa began djing in 1999. Independent radio played a big part in Melissaâs musical upbringing; she hosted a radio show on WRUV FM, presenting an eclectic mix of underground hip-hop, reggae, dancehall, world music and funk. In the spring of 2000 Melissa moved back to her island home of St. Maarten and began co-hosting a popular morning talk radio show. Djing took a back seat to her early morning schedule until a promising new club opened in St. Maarten- Bliss⦠Melissa was one of the first resident djs at Bliss and helped to create Blissâs unique and exotic sound. Three years later, Melissa is still a resident dj and dominant force in Blissâs musical repertoire.
The winter season of 2003/4 and 2004/5 brought Melissa to the exclusive French island of St. Barths where she djed at Nikki Beach, Casa Nikki and The Yacht Club. She held a residency at Nikki Beach for the busy month of December â04. In 2005 Melissa played with Stephane Pomougnac (Hotel Costes), Jacques Dumas (Nikki Beach), Paris-based DJ Maia-K and New Yorkâs DJ Finesse and Lazy K. In February of 2005, Hollywood mogul Andrew Alchek flew Melissa in to DJ a private party in his Hollywood estate. She was such a hit that she is invited back for his next parties.
Melissa remains a solid force behind the decks in St. Maarten, St. Barths, Boston and Los Angeles. The summer of 2005 brings Melissa and her deep crates to London⦠Look out!
