DJ Mecho is one of the most talented DJs in Bulgaria. He launched his DJ career in 2001 when he was 28. Soon he was acknowledged as highly driven and promising artist.DJ Mecho’s sets incorporate house classics, funky, deep and electro. His musical taste is inspired by everything and anything in his surrounding environment. His new ideas for mixes come from listening to various types of music. These ideas might not be initially good to play, but he re-edits and mixes tunes using technology like Ableton Live to fit his vision of achieving ultimate dance floor energy.
DJ Mecho developed his everlasting love of music in his early childhood. Back in 1984 he joined the world famous Bulgarian National Radio children choir. His interest in music boosted when house and techno tunes materialized as part of the Bulgarian underground scene. Mecho’s love of house music began in 1987. Born and raised in Sofia – the capital of then communist Bulgaria, he was constantly struggling to acquire his favorite music distributed only underground at that time. His preferred bands were Depeche Mode, The Cure, Culture Club, Bros, etc. Later he was captured by the incredible revolutionary music style in the first album of The Prodigy. His devotion to music had no limits. He loved bands such as Extreme, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Black Sabbath…
Having bought his first equipment and working as a computer techie, the Djing was the natural path to follow as his number one passion. Music and mostly club tunes became his real love. Once he discovered his mixing talent and knowledge of how to make excellent music selections, he participated in musical events and party promotions at summer beach parties at the Bulgarian Black Sea resorts (Sunny Beach, Golden Sands, Sozopol, Varna, Bourgas, etc.).
His professional DJ career began when he was invited as resident DJ in the famous Buddha Bar in Sofia. Soon his impressive sets which mixed club house beats with ethnic vocals and instrumentals were widely recognized by the public. In 2003 he released the first of the series ‘Pure Pleasure’ compilations.
DJ Mecho has included into his sets live performances by the Lebanese tarambouka player Samir. The result is an impressive new vibe combining the ethnic sound of drums with house beats.
He became a resident DJ at MyClub, a cosy house club in center city of Sofia, in October 2005, for the Winter/Spring Season.
After August 2006, DJ Mecho has took residency at NRJ Radio Bulgaria by mixing exclusively 3 hours every 2 weeks on Thursdays. He was granted the opportunity to record 4 hours of the Best of Club Music 2006 for NRJ broadcasting it on 24/Dec and 31/Dec.
In the late 2000 Mecho met DJ Tony Hristov. Their great friendship and appreciation for house music was a reason to initiate a new project in January 2003 – an underground label called Possess Records. DJ Mecho is also working alongside with Popcorn, a Bulgarian band that has achieved huge international success producing and releasing tracks in Germany, UK and USA.
