Finding a love for house music at an early age, Matt Masters started working for Freerange Records in early 2004. Having DJed for several years before that, he decided to spend his first season in Ibiza that summer and gained residencies with two large island promoters that year as well as securing a residency at SunSea Bar and appearing at many venues including Privilege, El Divino and Es Paradis. When he returned from the island, Matt was invited to join the Freerange team permanently that year and the label and its artists have played a fundamental part in his musical influences and ambitions.
As a DJ, Matt has played alongside Switch, Hipp-E, Milton Jackson, Jimpster, Palmskin, Mike Monday, Nacho Marco, Fish Go Deep, Kirk Degiorgio, Shur-I-Kan and more at the London Freerange Records label parties. He has also appeared at various venues across the globe including 360 Dubai, the Sonar Music Festival in Barcelona and the Garden Festival in Croatia. He has enjoyed a Freerange Records residency at AKA, London and is currently helping to find a new home for the monthly Freerange night somewhere in the realms of East London.
In addition to his DJ gigs, Matt hosts the bi -weekly Freerange Records Radioshow with Jimpster. Guests so far have included DJ Yellow, Stimming, D’Play, Salvatore Freda, Manuel Tur, Gorge, Brothers Vibe, Solomun, Jimpster, Roberto Rodriguez, Pezzner, Diesel (X-Press 2), Deetron, Philipp, Kasper, Nikola Gala, Fred Everything, Tony Lionni, Andreas Saag, Simbad, Nacho Marco, Milton Jackson, Mike Monday, Palmskin Productions, Andrew Crom, Frank Spangler, Shimiko, Trackheadz, Brett Johnson and Shur-I-Kan. This show is syndicated worldwide on various radio stations including Kiss FM (Australia), Ibiza Sonica 95.2FM (Ibiza), SS Radio (UK), Club FM (Macedonia), Universal Vibes (UK), Proton Radio (USA), Lush Radio (Dubai), Dance Tunes Holland), Sceen FM (Germany), Sweat Lodge (Germany), Dinamo FM (Turkey) & Pulse Radio (Australia). The show is also available as a Podcast on ITunes and at the last count had over 100,000 subscribers.
March 2007 saw the release of Brett Johnson’s Life in the Emerald City EP which featured Matt’s debut remix, a digital exclusive of WeR1 after Matt decided to delve into the world of production. Matt’s 2nd remix for Freerange was a re- work of Jimpster’s A Love Like This and received airplay on Pete Tong’s Essential Selection on Radio 1 when Groove Armada filled in for Pete. Since then Matt has gone on to remix for artists including Dirty Vegas, Pezzner, Nacho Marco, Onionz, Timo Garcia, Corregated Tunnel, Harold Heath, Steve Mill, Greg Mak, Vas Floyd, Harnessnoise, Celestial, Handle With Care, Claes Rosen and more Recently Tony Lionni and Evren Ulusoy on labels including Pacha, Berwick Street, Urbantorque, Elevation, Endemic, Influential House, 2 Pin,Justified Cause, Brown Eyed Boyz, Mark Knight’s Toolroom Records, Nightbird, Nightdrive and a couple more on Freerange Records to boot .
Matt also works with MrCenzo under their MidiDropMusic guise on various EP’s. They have enjoyed number 1 and 2 top chart successes on download stores Beatport and Juno whilst working with labels including Glideslope, Guess, Loudeast, 54 Music, Acryl, Sophisticate and their forthcoming EP on Germanys Plastic City Records. Matt and Cenzo have also worked on remixes for Raw Cutz, Adjust Records, 303 Lovers, Plastic City, TriCircle, Dutchie, Glideslope, Brown Eyed Boyz & one for Jay-J on his Shifted Music Label.
As for his solo endeavours, Matt has had success with solo releases through Urbantorque Records (4/ 5 in Mixmag Magazine UK), Pack Up And Dance (Number 2 on Beatport deep house chart for several weeks), Metroline (Record Of The Week on Loudeast FM Spain) & Nightbird and has been fortunate to have the likes of Milton Jackson and Soul Minority remix his productions. His tracks have featured on compilations including Mark Knights Toolroom Knights 2.0, the Freerange Records Forever and Focus on series, Metrolines Various Artists comp and his forthcoming Always Delayed track which is featured (and signed) to Hector Romero and Satoshi Tomiie’s forthcoming Saw mix (see Discography for full details of all Matt’s releases).
On top of all of this he has started a new project with Pezzner called Arithmetics and they have just finished off a new track called For The Faint Of Heart which is forthcoming on… He also works for Delusions Of Grandeur under his Marcelle La Roque guise and they are currently having great success with their down-tempo disco goodies.
Matt has been described as “fast becoming a force to be reckoned with” and Jimpster has described some of his productions as “Excellent tracks full of originality and deep, dancefloor friendly loveliness”.
