Cuban born, American assembled, and European adopted, singer and songwriter Liset Alea is at home anywhere. After fleeing Cuba with her family she has lived in Costa Rica, Miami, New York, Amsterdam, London, and Paris, absorbing influences as she goes. Being fluent in English, Spanish, French, Greek and having a working Dutch has certainly eased her passage.
Blending Pop with Folk, adding a dash of Cuban soul and imagination to taste, her beguiling and evocative mixture of musical creations coupled with her seductive vocals will uplift and transport the listener. But then again…if she’s feeling a bit manic, she’ll rap. Not only does she use her voice as an instrument of pleasure, but also her six-string guitar, percussion, and the bulbul tarang (Indian Banjo).
While living in New York City, she studied Jazz at The New School Jazz Conservatory. Her voice subsequently founded jazz-electronic band Etro Anime, whose album See The Sound was released on V2 Records. She then went on to work closely with hit producer Yoad Nevo (Sugababes, Bryan Adams, Jem), with whom she recorded her first solo album No Sleep on EMI, at the prestigious Townhouse Studios in London, gaining her a top 20 single on the Dutch charts.
Liset has toured the world with Nouvelle Vague, Terence Trent D’arby, and French DJ AlexKid and shared stages with Kosheen, Raul Paz, Laurent Garnier and Llorca. Most recently she performed with Juanes (17 time GRAMMY award winner) in her native Cuba at the historic “Paz Sin Fronteras” Concert, where they sang to an audience of 1.2 million people.
Liset Alea’s music can be heard on the TV series Entourage (2009), 90210 (2009), 6 Feet Under, Las Vegas, and the studio film Holy Rollers (2010).
Not just a talented vocalist and musician, Liset is an accomplished songwriter. Liset has written platinum selling songs for other artists such as Belgian Pop Idols Winner Katerine, who used Liset’s song “Catfight” as a single, and it went on to win ‘Best Pop Song Of The Year” at the 2006 TMF Awards (Belgian’s equivalent to the Grammy’s). The song was then translated in to Czech, and released as a single ‘Kočka na rozpálený střeše’ by Ewa Farna on her platinum selling album ‘Měls mě vůbec rád’ (2006). Dolcenera (a gold selling Italian artiste ex-winner of a famous Italian reality show called Music Farm) has also released an Italian version of Liset’s song ‘Anywhere With You’ translated to ‘Chi decide sei soltanto tu’ on her latest album.
Currently based out of Paris, she is pursuing an independent career by recording her self-penned Spanish songs incorporating her Cuban origins and European influences she has picked up along the way. Liset Alea’s unique and mesmerizing style will be sure to captivate and seduce any audience. She has just finished recording her first Spanish album which will be an acoustic-electronic album that will be sure to surprise the Latin music market due out in the Spring of 2011.
