Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Leonardo Vega “DJ Leony” started spinning records at the age of 13. His passion for music and determination to be the best propelled Vega to djing the most popular “disco-parties” of his time. Then came the club scene… and the deal was sealed.
Over 2 decades DJ Leony has shared with the public his devouring passion for spinning and becoming a true star of the discotheque. Mix Show veteran with radio roots in Orlando, he’s the mastermind behind KQ 103.1 “Mini Mixes” effectively reaching Central Florida’s masses since 2002. Before KQ, DJ Leony had a continued success as WNUE/Al Palo Mix/Mega Remix & WPYO’s Dance Mixologist of “95.3 Party’s Mix Factory”.Recently, his acclaimed approach to House Music landed him a weekly spot with Sirius/XM industry’s Premier Mix Show “Passport 2 Dance”, where Leony’s exclusive mixes of Progressive House, Electro & BigRoom shoot up his listeners adrenaline and always leave them wanting more.
For years his residency at Universal Studios Latin Quarter (Orlando) allows him to keep his skills sharp while entertaining audiences from all over the world. He knows his crowds so well because he is just as big a fan as they are of his music. Just like the thousands he plays for, Leony lives for the music. He tries to maintain a close connection to the people who come to hear him play because like them, he is a music fan first. With record bag and headphones in hand, Leony moves masses in his own unique way. He has played some of the biggest clubs and festivals in Orlando. “Whenever I play anywhere, I feel like I’m at home, I look down to the dance floor and I see my people, they understand me, they understand what’s going down as I spin my records.” It’s a journey that happens week after week, and Leony is their guide.
In addition to overseeing Promo Only’s Latin Division and programming it’s Rhythm Club Series, Leony has long topped the list of most in demand DJ/producers. As Promo Only Latin’s Program Director, Vega has an outstanding record breaking the hits within the Latin music market. Vega’s remixes of Luis Fonsi, David Bisbal, Obie Bermúdez, among others have elevated him to the top ranks of the Latin scene. It is his remix of “Ríe y Llora,” by the late Celia Cruz, that earned Vega top honors at the prestigious Winter Music Conference – he track was voted Best Latin Remix by the International Dance Music Association.
