With impeccable track selection, meticulous mixing, and a natural ability to read a crowd like few others, Lachlan Scotland is clearly destined to be regarded among the global DJ elite. Few jocks bring the kind of energy to the decks that this man exhibits every time he spins, regardless of if he is playing for a few friends or a packed dance floor full of screaming party people with their hands in the air. Anyone who has ever had the privilege of hearing Lachlan rock a party would agree that he always leaves them begging for more.
Lachlan Scotland was first introduced to dance music during the early 90s when a friend from Germany sent him MP3s of some of the hottest up and coming techno artists in the world. As dance music evolved his love for the music began to blossom.
Residing in the Bay Area just an hour away from the dance music hub of San Francisco, Lachlan soon became hooked on the scene through his best friend Dylan. Dylan had purchased turntables and was spinning at many underground raves and house parties during the height of the rave scene. At one of these parties I watched my best friend simply captivating everybody. People that didnt even know what techno or house music was were all dancing and freaking out. I felt the energy of the room move and shift, rise and fall and instantly knew that this was an art form and something that I wanted to do. What an amazing gift to give to people, helping them set there minds free from worry and just let go!
Lachlan started buying records and practiced mixing on Dylans tables. He then bought his own gear and started shopping at many underground Bay Area record stores, such as BPM, Big Daddys, and Primal records. A couple of years later, Lachlan was ready to hit the decks in public.
Lachlan first played at little house parties for his friends, which soon progressed to djing at local bars and clubs. He has since held residencies in Sacramento, Reno and San Francisco. He has played private events in Las Vegas and this last year performed at his first international gig in Puerto Vallarta Mexico with his associate Junior Gonzales.
His style on the decks is very much dependent on the crowd he is playing for but he always leaving them jumping and screaming for more. In SF, Lachlan tends toward very funky and deep but still banging style house infused with lots of guitar riffs, tribal sounds, and vocal snippets. His other main style is progressive house, electro/tech house, and breaks. Some of my DJ idols are Mark Farina and Dylan aka DJ Loki for deep house. They both have such a funky, techy style and always bring the energy and rock the dance floor. Anthony Pappa, Wally Lopez, Dr. Kucho, and James Zabiela would be my idols on the more progressive side. Their music has inspired me in so many ways and some of their mixes have lasting memories attached to them.
Lachlan is currently working with partner Eric Sharp, throwing underground parties and club events in and around San Francisco under the banner of Rock It Science Productions. He has also teamed up with Rob Easson of the Moontrain Conductors at Moulton Studios, and is working on his first production projects due to come out in the near future under the new label kingfizz records.
Watch for Lachlan Scotland to become one of the most sought after DJs in the world. And when it happens he will still have a huge smile on his face and find immense joy in sharing his uplifting, positive energy and passion for getting down with you.
