Kuana has developed a signature sound of bass music that has shot him to the forefront of Canada’s bass music industry. Carefully crafting his art over several years of producing everything from bumpy tech, to pulsing electro, to dirty dub, and currently finding a home in, and receiving tremendous support from the glitch hop community. Kuana has released a flurry of tunes over the past couple years on some of the hottest rising labels in the industry like Sub Philo Music, Atomic Zoo, Bass Hound, and his own project Substation Recordings.
Kuana’s logged 6 years of party rocking all over Western Canada at some of the hottest venues like Sunset Room (Vic), Aurora (Banff), Twilight (Edm), The Warehouse (Cgy), Habitat (Cgy), Exhibition Grounds (Leth), as well as music festivals like Motion Notion, Voodoo, Mad Hatter, Grind, and a 3 year resident at Alberta’s Regional Burning Man – Freezer Burn. Along with numerous local residencies at clubs like Amsterdam Rhino and Sals, plus a long-time residency on di.fm/electro alongside electro-phenom Soulfix… it goes without saying, this guy knows how to jam. Massive bass of all shapes, chopped with custom edits and mash-ups over an ever evolving range of bpm’s and genres, plus unreleased tunes from the half-dozen exclusive promo pools Kuana’s been invited to, all blended seamlessly into the live performance that put Kuana on the map.
2012 has been Kuana’s biggest year to date. Already having his name spattered across Beatport’s top 100 chart for glitch hop, the rest of the year looks even brighter. His debut release on Substation Recordings saw all three of it’s tracks breach the #50 marker on said chart with “Straight From The Horses Mouth”; a callabo with Rusty Meeks featuring vocals from UK’s own MC Freeflow, landed a spot at #8, while ‘Not Like This’ hit #19 and ‘Nightmares’ made it to #47. Kuana’s bassy remix of ’I’m So Indie’ from the hip hop titan – Transit, pounded it’s way to #14 on Beatport’s top 100 glitch hop. Along with a plethora of front page features on Beatport, and support from some the biggest names in bass music like Thrills, ill.gates, Kouncilhouse, Glitchy & Scratchy, Mat The Alien, Czech, Dirty Politics / Soulfix, Flatland Funk, Steve Velocity / Tantrik Decks, and the list goes on and on… Kuana is one serious bass music contender sure to cause a major ruckus in your neighbourhood soon.
