Scottish Hard Dance DJ Kev Murphy was introduced to the world of djing back in 1990 at the tender age of 14. He was given his first set at Roxannes Nightclub which was also the nightclub that saw the birth of legendary club night The Rumba Club. He became resident at the under 18’s night which boasted guest DJ’s such as Carl Cox, Frankie “Shag” Bones and Sasha. His 2 years residency at Roxannes seen him progress from House music to Old skool Hardcore.
After Roxannes was unfortunately burnt down he became resident DJ at successful hardcore night Equinox. This saw him play his fast and bouncy blend of Hardcore to the Scottish masses along beside hardcore masters Marc Smith, Scott Brown, Bass Generator, DJ Seduction, Technotrance and the late legend (Radio Forth’s) Tom Wilson.
While playing at Equinox, Kevin changed his DJ name to Destruxion as he felt it was more appealing to suit his style of music. He was attracting the eyes of many promoters in 94. He was snapped up by the massive FANTAZIA to appear at there club tour of Scotland. This saw him playing in front of 1500+ clubbers along beside FANTAZIA legends P.S.I., Sunset Regime, DJ SS, Grooverider and Easy Groove.
In 94 Kevin played his first all nighter in The Fubar, Stirling. This again was to crowds the size of 1000+. These all nighters saw some of the finest hardcore DJ’s and PA’s around. He remembers especially the Ultrasonic, Q-Tex and Bass X nights. which to him was the 3 ultimate bands at that time.
In 97 saw Kevin change his style progressing onto Trance music. With regular appearances at Mucasa, Warehouse, Perth and also The Ice Factory in Perth. Mucasa promoter and DJ Jay M whom is good friends of Kevin had brought in DJ’s such as Darren Stokes, Lisa Pin Up, Steve Thomas, Steve Hill, Tidy Boyz and DJ Gee.
Kevin decided to take a short break from the music scene in 2000 to concentrate on further education.
In 2004 Kevin has returned to the scene playing Hard Trance/Hard Dance. He now runs his own successful club night in Perth called The Bubble Club at Scotlandâs Premier nightclub, The Ice Factory. His night has attracted great DJâs from all corners of the globe such as, Scot Project (Germany), Lisa Pin-Up (UK), Mark Sherry (Public Domain, UK), Bobby V (Netherlands), Force 9 (UK), Jon the Baptist (UK), Jason Cortez (UK) and much more.
In 2006 Kevin has had a great year in Djing which has seen him play in various clubs around Scotland and graced the decks along aside great artists such as, Anne Savage, DJ There aka Heart from Brennan and Heart (Netherlands) and Future Soundâs The Juvenile.
The futures still bright for Kevin and many great things are set for the rest of the year and onwards. Watch this space.
