Biography

Although he was born in Australia, upcoming producer/DJ, Ken Loi has called San Francisco, California his home since the early 80s. At the young age of 6, Ken explored his musical talent by engaging in piano lessons and participated in various United States Open Music Competitions until the end of his high school career. He went on to attend the University of California, Davis, and graduated with a degree in Biology. However, his true passion always remained with music. So regardless of his classically trained background, Ken felt compelled to transition into the Euro dance and eventually the trance scene after receiving inspiration from artists such as Tiësto, M.I.K.E. / Push, Rank 1, Airbase, Markus Schulz, and Sander Van Doorn. Ken currently works as an EMT by day, but as night falls, he diligently sets the tone for party goers as a ground-breaking producer/DJ.

From 2005 to 2008, Ken produced and released his own tracks on record labels, such as Perfecto Digital and Unearthed Records, while performing at local gigs under his former alias as ‘Elucidate’. However, Ken Loi’s journey towards recognition truly started in 2009 when he started producing under his own name. His achievements included opening for Ferry Corstens “Twice in a Blue Moon: World Tour”, winning First Place for Tiësto’s “Knock You Out” Beatportal contest, and debuting on countless radio shows around the world, including Tiësto’s Club Life, Armin Van Buurens ASOT, Markus Schulz’s GDJB, Rank1’s Radio Rush, and tyDi’s Global Soundsystem. Acquiring more styles as his talent grew, Ken became more versatile in the electronic dance music scene. But in order to master his sound, Ken took time off of performing in 2010 and has undoubtedly returned to the EDM family as a force not to be reckoned with.

The year 2011 has been most notable for this upcoming artist. Ken Loi has been well known for his remixes for artists such as Tiësto, Kaskade, Markus Schulz, Martin Solveig, Marcel Woods, and Wynter Gordon. His recent signings include Dim Mak, High Contrast Recordings & Big Beat/Atlantic Records. However, after popular demand, Ken released his bootleg of The Ting Ting’s “Hands”, which went viral with the support of Tiësto playing it on tour at worldwide events, such as Stereosonic Festival Australia, Ultra Music Festival, Energy 2011, etc. With Tiësto giving Ken’s bootleg of “Hands” an outstanding reputation, producers such as Kaskade, Steve Aoki, and Wolfgang Gartner started spinning it as well. In the meanwhile, Ken Loi’s remix of Martin Solveig’s “Hello,” released on Mixture, caught the attention of listeners around the world. But it is undoubtedly recognized that the release of Ken Loi’s remix of Kaskade & Tiësto’s “Only You” was the turning point of his career as it broke into the Beatport Top 100 Chart. It wasn’t long until Tiësto, the DJ legend himself, invited Ken Loi to play an opening set for the ‘Tiësto: In Concert’ residency in Las Vegas located at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. His energetic performance in Las Vegas impressed Tiësto and his team that they personally invited Ken back for several more opening sets, which included the history making final stop of the Club Life: College Invasion Tour at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles and the back-to-back shows at San Francisco’s Ruby Skye for Tiësto’s Halloween edition of Club Life. If all that wasn’t enough for this humble artist, Ken was recently named Breakthrough DJ/Producer of 2011 by Tiësto on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ poll. With his countless achievements in this year alone, Ken Loi is definitely a breakthrough DJ/Producer to follow because his exceptional talent and unconditional passion for music is expected to push him into the future of EDM and make him the next revolutionizing artist.
