Originally from Florida, Justin began playing music starting with the violin in the fourth grade. He grew up listening to soul, jazz and funk from his parents with influences such as Earth Wind and Fire, The Isley Brothers, Kool and the Gang and Michael Jackson. His experiences learning about rhythms and musical composition brought him a step forward on what would come in later years. While living in New York and Texas, he was introduced to phonographic and digital music equipment through friends who played hip-hop and r&b in high school. He immediately began teaching himself beat-mixing and scratching, and became more interested and excited about getting into the scene.
In 1999 he was introduced to house music and his passion for music rapidly grew into a lifestyle. Justin found what he was looking in electronic music and thought it was an exciting sound to play out.
After moving to Albuquerque in 2001, Justin began playing regularly at the Sundaze events as well as holding a residency at the New Chinatown (formerly known as Empire), where people began recognizing his music and talent. Now a resident at Albuquerque’s Light Club, he continues to stand out and works hard to create a unique sound in his sets.
Currently branching off into the world of atmospheric, soulful drum and bass along with the soulful, jazzy sounds of downtempo, Justin’s sights on great music is endless. Aside from playing, he is also currently working with the Good Looking Organisation to get more of their eclectic sound out and is working on the creation of RoSounds.
Justin can be heard every Thursday at 7pm on desertfm radio on the show “Definition” afterwards at Addiction Thursday’s at Rebar Nightclub. He will be graduating next May from the University of New Mexico, majoring in communications and journalism, with an emphasis in advertising and design.
Be on the lookout for the new RoSounds website coming in late July… Respect.
