Biography

Jethro (Jeff Ryon) is a composer/producer, musician, and dj. He was a member of the band Bad Fathers from 2002 – 2009. He is a co-founder of NuVibe Recordings and currently lives in North Liberty, Iowa.

He was given a guitar at age 11 and had formed his first band by his early teens. He was a member of several bands throughout high school and during his brief stint in college.

Jeff was introduced to electronic dance music while still in high school in 1994. He attended the rave party “Adam in Wonderland” in Cedar Rapids and was impressed enough to spend the next several years partying all over the midwest.

His life was changed the first time he heard a dj spin “Live Wire” by DBX

He became enamoured with underground dance music through mixtapes by local and regional dj’s and got on an intimate basis with vinyl while learning to dj in 1996. As a Dj, Jethro became known for eclectic energetic sets veering through house, ghetto house, tech-house, and techno. Around 1997-99 he promoted parties as a member of On The Floor Productions, and was djing constantly in Iowa and around the midwest, including headlining slots at Iowa City’s legendary Rotation.

Jethro began producing music on computer in 1997. His course moved away from house/techno when he formed Bad Fathers along with Juan Hooks, Austin Galante, and Justin Cox in 2002. During his time with the alternative-hiphop/indy-rock band Jethro produced and engineered 3 full length independent releases – including a song featuring grammy award winning Cee-Lo Green of Gnarles Barkley fame, and a song that was featured in the MGM movie “College.” Jethro toured often as the guitarist for the band, did 21 days on the Vans Warped Tour 2005, and 3 showcases during SXSW 2007.

He has also done some work composing for television – landing several backing tracks on Spike channel’s “Jesse James is a Dead Man” among others.

In 2009 Jeff heard the call to return his focus to electronic dance music.

In April 2010 alongside Dj Uplift, Jethro established NuVibe Recordings. His first release is available for free @ www.NuVibeRecordings.com
