Loick Essien, 21 years old has been surrounded by music all his life. Even at the age of four, he would frequently perform in front of his mother’s hairdressing clients, inspired by the music videos of Michael Jackson and Bobby Brown. He spent his childhood discovering a wide variety of music including Madonna and Luther Vandross and continued to try and master his dance skills and vocals.
It wasn’t long before these amazing talents were spotted across the industry and it seemed Loick had been destined for stardom at a very young age. MTV Select presenter Richard Blackwood was so impressed he immediately offered Loick the opportunity to co-host the show with him and soon music producers, management representatives and casting agencies were all fighting to work with the new star.
At just 12 years old, Loick was now starring in a host of music videos including Big Brovaz’ ‘OK’. During the shoot, production guru Skillz was truly amazed by Loick’s vocals hearing him sing between takes. He asked him back to the studio to develop his songwriting skills and get a taste of recording music. Soon he was presented with the opportunity to work alongside established homegrown talent including Jamelia whilst continuing to work with Skillz and other mainstream producers to discover his own unique sound.
Several years on, Loick has grown in confidence encouraged by the incredible response and feedback generated from his feature on Bashy’s underground classic ‘Black Boys’ to his leaked demo of ‘Idol’ which received massive views on YouTube and acclaim from peers and fans alike.
Loick is widely regarded within the industry as the most explosive vocal talent around and its finally time for this to be presented to the masses, having been signed for three years, developing and honing his craft and featuring on some of the most memorable collaborations of the early urban scene namely Chipmunk’s debut single ‘Beast’, Bashy’s ‘Black Boys’ and most recently his collaboration with Bashy on ‘When The Sky Falls’ for the movie ‘Shank’ soundtrack its finally his moment with his debut single “Love Drunk” produced by Labrinth.
