Growing up in the windy city on a steady diet of Chicago House and Detroit Techno, James eventually discovered the deeper and darker sides of electronic music while attending school in New York and traveling abroad, living and working abroad in Europe and Australia. Returning to Chicago in 1999, he began throwing regular underground nights and house parties, eventually earning DJ slots and residencies at several of the city?s most respected clubs including Smartbar, Sound-Bar, Crobar, Vision, Big Wig and Zentra. In 2002 James began his widely recognized Diversified Portfolio radio show on WNUR 89.3FM, the same station that he grew up listening to and the former radio home of Derrick Carter, Mark Farina and many of Chicago?s other legendary DJ?s during dance music?s explosion in the 1980?s and 1990?s. Currently recognized as the largest non-commercial radio station in the Midwest and one of the largest alternatives to mainstream corporate radio in the United States, WNUR has provided James with an opportunity to express his unique style and showcase a diverse range of electronic music that is rarely heard outside of the club environment anywhere in the U.S. His radio show continues to air live every Wednesday night in Chicago and features regular guest mixes from the city?s most forward thinking DJ?s as well as guest mixes from some of the world?s largest International artists on their way through Chicago. James is also a regular contributor to several large radio outlets around the globe including XTC Radio London, XM Satellite Radio, Frisky Radio and Proton Radio where his mixes reach more and more listeners every day.
In 2005 James launched TheKnockList artist agency and the agency currently manages worldwide bookings, remix projects and PR efforts for several of the fastest rising electronic artists in the world including Habersham, Derek Howell, Ricky Ryan aka Can Costa, Christian Cambas, Chris Micali, Stel, Opencloud, Lance Cashion, Greg Benz and Chloe Harris.
James has also recently undertaken his first remix projects and expectations are high for several original productions and collaborations due out in 2007. As with his DJing, James believes his production style stands out as uniquely his own and promises listeners something that will move them both inside and out.
