SINGER/SONGWRITER, PRODUCER/SOUND DESIGNER, GUERRILLA FILMMAKER/PHOTOGRAPHER.
After three co-written & self-produced indie albums, two Billboard club singles, and several international chart topping ep’s including ‘SUNDAY’, ‘SOUL SIZE LOVE’ & ‘THE ONE’, Jaidene Veda has become a recognizable voice in both the underground house community & top 40 club circuits around the world. Often described as “Bjork meets Sade”, UK’s ‘Kula Records’ recently dubbed her a “modern day Tracey Thorn”.
Under the alias of “dub-bodé”, Veda first began producing and promoting Live House events, fusing Jazz horn sections with Deep House DJ’s and her freestyle vocals. From the Underground to the Arts Community, fashion house launches for Holt Renfrew to Canadian Jazz festivals, the self-promoting Songstress developed a diverse audience prior to developing a recording career.
Having collaborated with many of the industries finest, including Joaquin ‘Joe’ Claussell, Josh Milan, Glenn Underground, Jimpster, Ralf Gum, the Ananda Project & Reelsoul, her body of work has continued to bring her closer to working with all of the Artists who inspired her early in her career. Veda’s latest endeavors with Andy Compton, from ‘The Rurals’, have finally helped her embark on a journey off the 4/4, having just composed an organic Soul LP that is currently being completed. But it was her break out dance ep “FLOW”, remixed by London’s House luminary, Pete Heller, which landed a spot on Pete Tong’s “Essential Buzz Chart” upon release, and climbed to no.24 after 9 weeks on the Billboard Club Chart. Subsequent singles continued to gain the support of Tiesto, Van Buuren & Tong (http://www.curvverecordings.com/feed/2008/pete-tong-features-vinny-troias-magic-on-fast-trax/). Jaidene & label boss, Vinny Troia (CURVVE) followed up with a classic Bobby Caldwell cover, and once again climbed the Billboard Charts in the Fall of 2010 showcasing her talent and versatility across different genres.
Veda’s latest full length, ‘Pisces Pendulum’ (a compilation of deep house singles as well as Down Tempo, Lounge, Nu Jazz, Spoken Word & Neo Soul) caught the ears of DJ Spinna, Danny Krivit, Ralf Gum, or the likes of Bugz in the Attic & received international radio support including Pacha & Global Ibiza. The album also made a genuine impact on DJ’s & Critics alike, those of which some reviewed as ‘album of the year’. Upon celebrating the summer release in New York City, a current single “Soul Size Love” was picked up by Shelter’s infamous Remixer & DJ, Timmy Regisford (once again expanding her audience to an international level with re-releases in the UK & Japan). Other singles from the LP were favored on several compilations including Roger Sanchez’s “RELEASE YOURSELF” & South Africa’s ‘SOUL CANDI’. The latter end of 2010 ended with a two-month touring/recording stint across Europe, spanning several areas of Britain, as well as Paris & Prague.
Also an award winning Filmmaker and Sound Designer, Jaidene (an Audio Engineering grad from the Vancouver Film School) was recognized at several International Graduate Film Festivals, for ‘Outstanding Video-making Achievement’, as well as nominations for ‘Best Experimental’ & ‘Best Original Music’, for her debut short film in 2005. Receiving awards for ‘Best Sound’ in both Toronto and Vancouver, she continued to direct and post an award winning commercial for the sponsoring executives at ‘PEPSI’ (VIEW AD – http://www.vfs.com/news.php?id=11&news_id=405). She continues working behind the lens and is now well known for experimenting with Indie music videos and film shorts along side fellow Canadian performance Artists (http://www.youtube.com/user/JaiVeda).
“The epitome of artist, vocally and otherwise. Inspired. Driven. But the real treat is the connection to the audience, Jaidene’s work touches the listener in ways not yet found but at once familiar, and like a poet of notes and sounds her prose is immediately pertinent to the heart and soul of any who venture to hear.” FEROSHUS RECORDS
