Claire Kenway (DJ Isis) was corrupted by the sounds of electronica at an early age. Influenced first and foremost to delve into the realm of electronic music by the Orb’ “Little Fluffy Clouds”, and Orbital’ “Halcyon On & On”, Claire always sought out music that was beautiful as well as rhythmically satisfying.
As she grew older, Claire’ taste became more and more refined. She began attending raves, all night parties, and listening to techno music as well as the softer sounds of downtempo and trip hop. Influenced to delve into the realm of dj-ing by artists such as Richie Hawtin, Misstress Barbara, Kruder & Dorfmeister, and Groove Armada, Claire bought a pair of decks when she was 19, determined to discover the mysteries of the groove.
Since January 2002, Claire—who has come to be known as Isis—has been playing in clubs, bars, and at raves around the maritimes. In addition to winning third place at the 2002 Acadia DJ Spin-off in March, Isis is known for her funky, tekky grooves and creative style of mixing. Seamlessly blending together funky techno, drummy tech-house, soulful melodic nuskool breaks, and groovy house, Isis creates music with her sets that defies classification. Isis’ incredible presence onstage as she grooves to the rhythms, bright eyes smiling at those who dance before her, and smooth mixing styles have been enchanting audiences all over the maritimes.
