There is nothing more satisfying than giving it to a crowd and getting it right back ….thats what I strive for in my sets…thats what its all about…bottom line, you are there to please the crowd you are playing for, while, at the same time, giving them something unique that they wouldnt get somewhere else
Instinctively, Hector Fonseca connects with his crowd. Whether its in a small trendy lounge or a mega club or in Manhattan or Philadelphia, Hector has managed to impress many in a short amount of time. His ability to play for a crowd in a unique and creative way continues to push this rising star higher and higher. Whether it is a fashion, commercial ,underground ,or industry crowd, his blend of funky rhythms, tribal sexiness and electronic edginess has set Hector apart from the average DJ. He always manages to be one step ahead while remaining true to his roots.
Hectors career started in New Jersey where he grew up minutes away from NYC. In the late 80s, He was turned on to the house music scene at a young age by his cousin who djed in local clubs. Not too long after, he discovered the sounds of legendary Djs such as David Morales/Frankie Knuckles/Todd Terry and Junior Vasquez. He also got turned onto early 90’s underground techno artists like Joey Beltram , Moby and The Prodigy…. That was all it took, he was hooked on dance music. As he said, I was always the dj at most parties I went to….I wasnt hired or paid, but I always found a way to control the music wherever I was….
His first official gig came after he gave his first mixed tape to a friend who loved it enough to pass it on to others in the industry. Not too long after, he was hired to DJ at NYCs legendary Limelight nightclub where he DJed regularly at John Blairs Drama Sundays thereafter. Word spread quickly of this fresh talent, and soon after, he landed gigs at Tunnel, Centro Fly and Spa in NYC. During one gig at Spa, he impressed Shampoo nightclub owner Barry Gutin, who hired him to spin the Pink part at Shampoo in Philadelphia, an event with more than 3000 people in attendance. Hector rocked the crowd that night and was given a once a month residency at Shaft Fridays/Shampoo. Not too long after, Hector became the resident DJ of gay college party Saturdays at Heaven. A residency/party which he help build into one of the more successful Saturday night events in NYC for 2 years strong. In addition to this, he also made regular appearances at Cheetah/Asseteria Sundays and Eugenes/ Buckingham Thursdays at Plaid in NYC.
Having played such prestigious events like Wigstock official afterparty at Spa, Pink at Shampoo and, most recently, Blue Ball Philadelphia2004, Hector has taken his talents to the fashion world. He was asked to create music during fashion week for designers Victor Alfaro, Sarah James and Jill Stuart. In addition, he has successfully crossed over into remixing and production. Having impressed his mentor, Grammy Winning Dj/Producer/Remixer Peter Rauhofer, Hector teamed up with Hiram Reve to remix Lula The Dj the music and me for Star69 records. This lead to remixes of artists such as Brandy, Khia, Cyn, Suzanne Palmer , Missy Elliott and Kelis ….. all of which got heavy play and high charting from djs around the world.
Most recently, Hector has just remixed the single for Jahkey B. Featuring Satta Heartattack which is out in stores on Star69 records. Looking forward, Hector is collaborating with club persona Alan T. on his first original production as well as additional remixes for Star69 records.
