Elz has always felt a strong love for music and dancing so in 1997 watching DJ Dan, Terry Mullan, Charles Feelgood, Barry Weaver, Traxx, DJ Icey, and especially Donald Glaude at underground parties in San Francisco inspired her to create her own unique blend of funky booty shaking pumping house, funky bumping techno and funky old school electro break beats. She taught her self how to mix records and scraped up enough money for one Technic 1200 turntable and a Radio Shack mixer. She would mix to the radio, tapes, CDs, or anything else she could get her hands on. Six months later she got another Technic 1200 and a new Vestex 05pro mixer for her birthday from her Grandma. She practiced everyday and quickly became a funky bass vinyl junkie.
Eight months after she first touched a pair of turntables, she got booked to play at X.O.X. 2 at the infamous 2nd and Jackson. She opened up in the small room and it was a great honor for her to be spinning at the same party as Frankie Bones, Jim Hopkins, Tony, Simon, Rinse, Flux, and more. She then began spinning regularly at a free Sunday afternoon outdoor party called Beatdown Sundaze and helped them throw Bass Freakers 1 & 2.
You can now find her rocking all over the bay area at such places as Mixed Element’ Heroine, 1015 Folsom, House Nation’ United We Jam, Ruby Skye, the Sno-Drift, Kelly’ Mission Rock, Coolworld’ Cyberfest, Unidy at Club Fuse, Warehouse in San Luis Obispo, Club Elevate, and Movement and Pure in San Diego. She has also made guest appearances online at LiveDJs.com, the Sister SF anti-radio show, Groovetech.com, and has a residency with Sister SF, and the Friday night radio show House Nation (94.9 FM) where she won best new DJ in San Francisco, Hypergroove, and Fresh parties. She just released her new CD “Breakadawn”, and has two other ones: “GhettoFunkBoggie,” and BassFunk", and has two mixed tapes “Break Away” and “Funky Beats”. She has recently started producing her own funkyhouse/beakbeat/techno sound so be on look out at stores for her original vinyl coming soon!
