Catching James Holden in 2003 sets the stage for one of the fastest rising talents in Singapore. In 2004, Effen began a tireless pursuit of dynamic dance sounds that led him to London where he started harvesting on record collections, instinctively with faith to head back home and transport a fusion of immense sounds and emotional music.
Within a few months, his legendary mix tape ‘Looking For The Perfect Key’propelled him into a whole new world of opportunities, including being featured on local airwaves as well as radio stations in America and the United Kingdom.
2005 was the year Effen stormed into the club scene, with his first club appearance at Zouk’s bi-yearly event Localized!. Since then, he has graced the decks of other top clubs in Singapore such as Onyx, DXO and Liquid Room. He has gained notorierity for tearing dancefloors apart with his main sets, weaving seamlessly the sounds of melodic trance,tech-trance and percussive techno, all into one cutting edge, mind-bending, sonic performance.
The very same year saw him securing his first club residency at DXO, alongside Godwin Pereira & Jason T. Choosing the darker vibes of progressive & tribal house for his warm-up sets, he had the great opportunity to play alongside some of the clubs guest Djs like Niina (Sweden), Norman H (Stripped, UK) and Phil Thompson (Bedrock, UK).
Besides spinning tunes week in week out, Effen has been working hard on his productions. With his recent track Invidia recently gaining attention from established U.S producer Jeff Belfi of Blue Room Project, look out for more exciting developments for this chap.
JUICE magazine rated him as one of the upcoming DJs to watch out for in 2006. So are you ready for his mind-bending musical journey?
We say EFFENitely.
