Underground Culture artist Dutchboy, known to his friends as Leo Corson, has been supporting the underground dance scene in Los Angeles since 1994. He started out as a party kid listening to house and techno. He then progressed to working at booths, production and promotion of underground events before becoming inspired to be a DJ. In 1995 his friend showed him this strange CD from the Netherlands called Thunderdome. It was a fast and energetic form of techno called “Hardcore”. He was instantly hooked, started searching for more and more of this “hardcore” and came to discover that many Los Angeles underground heroes, Ron D. Core, Demigod, Thee-O, Kookane, and Paulina Taylor played hardcore. He would then continue to attend every event possible to show his support for the underground and for hardcore.
During the years since his first encounter with hardcore techno, Dutchboy has grown as a DJ as well as a producer. These years have seen Dutchboy rise up into one of the L.A. Underground’ most well-respected hardcore DJs, co-founder of L.A’ only Hardcore Techno booking agencies, Underground Culture, venturing into a new form of dance music called hardstyle, and an accomplished producer of hardcore music, having his records released on various domestic and international labels. He also established Undercover Records, of which the first release features a remix from Dr. Zvago and is growing to host more remixes and original tracks from talented hardcore producers all over the globe. His next upcoming release will be on the world-renowned, Dwarf Records. This L.P. features a track from Dutchboy and another track with Swiss DJ/Producer, Miss Flower. This release is expected to gain more respect for the L.A. hardcore scene as it has a remix from The Viper from Holland and The Reactor from Italy. This important release also shows that Underground Culture is working hard to unite the European hardcore scene with L.A.
Dutchboy has played many events throughout the years in L.A. such as Together As One (2001 & 2002), Monster Massive (2001 & 2002), and Electric Daisy Carnival (2000, 2001, & 2002). He has also played in almost all of the Western states and even in Canada. He has traveled to Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland, and the U.K. to experience each country’ own specific unique dance scene.
His newest venture is opening up a very much needed record store that unites all dance music under one roof. The record store will feature everything from house, breaks, trance, techno, drum ’n bass, and of course, hardcore.
His greatest love is still the music and the crowd can feel it while listening to one of his extreme DJ sets. His music selection, reflecting the ever-changing face of hardcore techno and his energy are well-known and sought after throughout Los Angeles. Dutchboy is known to L.A. as the Happy Gabber/Partycore master which holds true in his sets as he always plays hard but maintains the important party vibe of hardcore. He doesn’t care how happy, slow, fast, or how dark the hardcore is, it should all be labeled “Hardcore Techno.”
